I would call this an oppinion and not a review. He should have really documented sources if any of those "facts" are true.

Holy... Man, that review was painful to read. Not because the kid didn't like Shaman King, but mostly because he rambled so much.
It's also obvious that he didn't get very far into the series, if he thinks it focuses JUST on one on one battles.
Ah well, I'm not going to worry about a review by someone who goes into a series with a bias in the first place *shrugs*.

Whoa, that's a little much for a review. I didn't even bother reading it the whole way through.
He seriously missing some important points here, though. The characters are not shallow and stereotyped. And where the heck does he get the 'God is my friend!' thing? Yoh and Ren were talking about Amidamaru. o_O;; And... 'graffiti style' art? C'mon now... he's reaching for evidence that just isn't there. -_-;;
One of the things that irked me the most was when he said that Shaman King was a Yu-Gi-Oh ripoff. Shaman King is NOT a Yu-Gi-Oh ripoff... *twitches*
So, all in all, this isn't a review. It's a ramble by a guy who doesn't have a life.

buwahahahaha, sorry it's just the whole "God is my friend" thing
I've never seen Yu-gi-oh but from what I understand, it's like shaman king in a way...
If this is right, I've heard Yu-gi-oh has a lot of old myths in it (A lot like shaman king).
However, whoever wrote this dose not understand this...
There are over 6 Million people in the world and sooner or later, someone is going to come with something similar... I mean I've had an idea for a book (back in 200 before I even knew what a shaman was) where the main character turned out to had an evil brother.
The same goes with the "ghosts are friends" quote
I mean duh...
Just because the person who wrote Yu-gi-oh used that quote doesn’t mean anyone else with half a brain can't come up with that kind of thing.
Shaman king is not a Yu-gi-oh copy
I rest my case

Sheesh... what an idiot...
First off, if he'd actually done his research (I don't count reading what little had been published in Shonen Jump and watching what was aired on FOXBOX at the time of the article to be considered "research"), he'd know that the majority of the anime (haven't read far enough into the manga) is not your typical "tournament" show (even if it is disguised as such). Plus, if he'd done research into Yu-Gi-Oh!, he'd realize that the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime available in the US isn't even the original, and, from what I've seen of the manga (which the original anime is supposed to be based off of) is NOTHING like Shaman King. I'll admit that the second anime, which we have over here, could be considered similar to Shaman King, but seeing as how the beginning of the Shaman King anime is similar to the beginning of the Shaman King manga, and the Shaman King manga came out in 1998, yet the second Yu-Gi-Oh! anime didn't come out 'til 2000. Wouldn't that make the second Yu-Gi-Oh! anime ripping off Shaman King?
Idiots like that make me want to puke

what i want to know if what the review said about hiroyuki takei is true....that he only did shaman king to get rich...and that he said it was a "smash-your-head-against-the-wall piece of crap potboiler"
if it is true....why would go through the effort to create characters with such detailed backrounds? like hao... and why would he continue it for so long?

Well... there IS a possibility that Takei MIGHT of said something like that. But, you should also take into account that Takei has a VERY weird sense of humor. If he did say it, I'm guessing he was joking ^^; .

I honestly wouldn't trust what that "review" said anyways...the way it was written...who knows where he is pulling his information from.

Wow... I mean how can you write a review of something using more of your own opinion after watching just a few episodes, then using facts themselves, I mean a Yugioh rip off, all they do in Yugioh is go, I have the most powerfull monster in the world, and then the other guy will be like, well I have a powerfull monster in the world also, and then oneof them will attack, and the other one will just use a trap card that nobodys ever heard of and they just put it in so more trading cards will be sold, and then the guy who put up the trap card will attack with his super powerfull monster but the other guy will also have a good trap card, so after that they will just redraw and start all over again! Oh and calling Anna a heartless shrew is kind of idiotic after you havent seen every episode.

The first several volumes of Yu-Gi-Oh! (I think the first seven) have a grand total of two instances of the card game (which became real after being featured in the manga). Therefore, there are fun stories in those volumes. Wow...
