Lack of previews: Surprised you didn't mention this... GA!!! I meant too! In my original post, when I went to check the spelling I accidently DELETED HALF MY POST. So then I had to go back and try to remember all the things I wrote ;_; . YES, the lack of episode previews REALLY annoys me. And there is a good reason why, the episode previews from Shaman King are INCREDIBLY amusing. Let me explain, In the begining of the series, the episode previews are a very standard "here's what's happening next episode...." kind of thing nariated by Manta. Somewhere along the way, either the writers or the voice actor went INSANE and the previews get incredibly silly and sometimes aren't even about the next episode ^^; . Really amusing stuff that I'm incredibly sad to see go.

Yesterday I was going to buy the first volume of Yugioh uncut, but FYE didn't have it, so I picked up volume one of Shaman King instead. I have to say the DVD had a much better release than I thought it was going to. I don't understand why AnimeonDVD.com thinks the trailers at the beginning of the disc are unskippable. I can skip them just fine by pressing the menu button on my remote control. The English subtitles weren't too awful. While I would've preffered having a more literal translation than just dubtitles with the Japanese names, the English subtitles seem to be quite accurate. I don't know Japanese myself to varify this, but compared to the fansubs of the first six episodes I downloaded about a year ago, there weren't too many drastic differences to me.
I still think the opening/ending credits look cool with the text in Japanese, regardless if I can read it or not, but I would've liked to have seen at least some English credits somewhere on the disc, either at the end of all the episodes or somewhere on the menus. While the next episode previews will surely be missed, it could've been a lot worse than that, so it's not that big of a deal to me if they're there or not. I watched a little bit of the new English dub last night just to hear what the voices sounded like and I just can't get used to them even with the dub uncut. Is it just me or is the audio in the English dub louder than the audio in the Japanese version?
I also would've liked to have seen some sort of extras on this disc. Contrary to what Funimation is trying to tell you, the dialog and subtitles are NOT extras. >< I would've liked to have at least seen the textless opening and ending credits included. I still think having only three episodes per volume is ridicilous, especially for longer anime series like Shaman King or Yugioh. However, I guess I should be grateful for that since it makes the DVDs cheaper to buy. Since they're priced at $20, that means I can actually buy them with my allowance rather than having to wait for Christmas or my birthday. ^^ Now if I only I can buy volume one of Yugioh....

Is it just me or is the audio in the English dub louder than the audio in the Japanese version? Sort of off topic but... I'm not surprised to hear this. Every one of my Sailor Moon DVDs has this problem with the Japanese audio track. The english is normal while the japanese you have to turn the volume waaaay up to hear. And even then it still sounds muffled on the first season box set.

Out of curiosity, I tried watching the new English dub for Shaman King last night and it was so awful that I couldn't even make it the entire way before I gave up on it half-way through episode two. It's just the horrible acting that bugs me. Now I know what Lovely-chan meant by "too accurate." It's like....when 4Kids translated the dialog, they didn't have enough words in the sentences for the voice artists to be able to finish it, without having a few seconds at the end leftover with no dialog and the lips still moving.
So, it seems like they tried to really stretch their syllables in order to match the lip movement or something. It's hard to explain....the fact they're still using the voice artists from the English edited version didn't help any, either. Most of the voices either didn't match their character at all, spoke blandly, or did that weird thing Lovely-chan was talking about. It's nice 4Kids attempted a more accurate dub, but the acting was just so bleh. I think I'm going to stick with the Japanese version for the rest of this series.

It's the original song in Japanese (they didn't dub it.)

Bumping and stickying. Not to be annoying, but because the information in this thread can actually be pretty helpful for those curious about the dvds. Don't comment if you have nothing new to add .

Know what I wish they also had (and Lovely, you may have already mentioned this)? The original dub track - yeah the horrible ones where Morty monologued too much and read ghost stories - it'd just be really great to go back and laugh at those, since they were never released on their own (unlike Yu-Gi-Oh). And then we could all do comparisons on our own! Just like Lovely-chan! ^_^

I fail to understand fully the complexity of Dubtitles, although I have a pretty good guess, anyone fill me in? You mean you don't know the definition, or...? Anyway, I was able to finally rent the DVDs the other day (well, only volume 2, since 1 was rented already). I thought it was really cool, especially seeing the opening and the translation of Oversoul, of which I pretty much had no idea what they were saying (except for 'let there be light' and 'revive a soul' ^_-). Hearing Ren in Japanese was neat, as was Manta and the others. Ryu I had heard before in a clip, but he still was a bit scary. ; When Anna was talking I got faint traces of Lina Inverse in her voice...but that's not really much of a surprise considering her VA is Megumi Hayashibara. ^_^; Jun was great too. And it was funny hearing the random people speaking Chinese in the Pailong movie they were watching ^^; Super accurate from what I can tell. I'll quote what the reviewer on AoD said as say "about 95% acurate" . Oh, phew. While watching I was worried that I had to guess what the characters were really saying due to distrust of the dubtitles. Somewhere along the way, either the writers or the voice actor went INSANE and the previews get incredibly silly and sometimes aren't even about the next episode ^^; . Really amusing stuff that I'm incredibly sad to see go. xD; That kind of happens in Petite Princess Yucie, what with the characters not really talking about the next episode. Mostly they talk about what happened in the episode you just watched, like in the episode where the parents visited the princess academy it was like "My daughter Yucie was the best at Parent's Day!" "No, it was of course my daughter Grenda!" "No, it was my Yucie!" "No, it was my Grenda-chan!" (new character) "Next episode: Blah blah blah blah blah (title)." "Yucie!" "Grenda!" "YUCIE!" "GRENDA!"

4Kids has now finally explained why the uncut Shaman King and Yugioh DVDs have been delayed! It's in this article here! www.animenewsnetwork.com/columns/sunday.php?id=35 They've also announced that they do intend on releasing uncut versions of all of their anime series! I think I'm going to faint! I hope this includes Pokemon, especially the movies!

Psh! I saw that this morning, it is very much a NON-answer in my opinion. I'll post more about it tomorrow/tonight (probably make a new thread.)

"KHAAAAAAN!!!!"
Sorry, couldnt resist...
Anyways... it is nice to see that the possibility of them being "cancelled" is unlikily.
I suppose I will post more thoughts after I see if they are viable after people like Lovely express their thoughts XD.
He seemed to be basically saying things everyone already likily knows, or, could assume anyways.... Meh.....
Was a nice read anyways, I guess... I don't believe him about the music stuff though.... Although I guess it isn't my job to make those kind of assumptions....

There's something wrong with that Alfred Kahn, he is the CEO of 4kids, and yet he doesn't know what some people are doing?! He is obviously oblivious to the fact that 4kids is the very least liked anime licencing company. Just by reading the Q&A you can tell they [4kids entertainment] are nothing more than a bunch of greedy money hogs. It's people like this that piss me off.
