And guys like having freinds who'v proven themselves worth having. Guys are weird! Why does someone has to prove himself to be your friend? One should accept others for what they are!(well not everyone ;D) |

One Piece is different because their are not his "friends" but his "nakama", which DOES mean friend in one instance, but in the terms of One Piece, it translates better to "companion" or "crewmate". And the major difference of the relationship between Luffy and his crew, and most of other Shonen/action shows is that they are all after different goals. None of the other characters want to be the "King of Pirates", only Luffy. In this way, they are partners from the begining, not rivals. So yes, there are some exceptions, but the exceptions are far less than the norm.
