OK, another 'I'm confused' topic by me. ^^;
If I remember correctly, the ruls for the first round of the tournament state that you MUST have your oversoul engaged, otherwise you lose the match (correct me if I'm wrong here).
However, when Ren and Yoh battle, they repeatedly break each other's Oversouls (well, according to the dub anyway, haven't seen the raw).
If this is the case, shouldn't Yoh have lost as soon as his Oversoul was broken for the first time?
Is this a plothole? Is there something I'm missing here? Or is it just one of those big, confusing... THINGS... that you're not supposed to think about?

No, because he still had furyoku left to fight with. He used his personal furyoku to repair it, so he could continue fighting. That's pretty much it. His oversoul wasn't completely destroyed because he repaired it at the cost of some furyoku.

Ah, so, as long as they have Furyoku to regenerate their Oversoul, they're safe?
In the manga, the description 'Loss of Oversould=Loss of match' is a little misleading... ^^;

The "large" part of their Oversoul DID break, but if you look at their weapons, they still have part of it engaged (it's that glowy stuff that appears around the handles of their weapons). As long as you still have just a smaaaaaal part of your oversoul engaged, then you are still in. You just won't be able to make much of an impact in the fight without something more subsantial. And at that point, it's best just to turn your oversoul off and give up.
This is why it took so long for Faust to defeat Yoh the first time they fought. Yoh didn't have much Furyoku left to form a proper oversoul, but he still insisted on keeping that small part up.
