Okay im not sure if this is just only in the dub but, in episode 13(the qualification with Yoh and Silva), Yoh is surprised that Silva could use oversoul. But in episode 9(when HoroHoro and Yoh fight all of the zombies), HoroHoro already used oversoul with his snowboard. Help explain anyone?

Can I ask an oversoul question too?
After the gang met Lyserg and he broke Horohoro's snowboard and Len's kwan dao, they fought those other three shaman using "spirit unity." Why didn't they just use Horo's ikupasi (however it's spelled) and Len's sword?

The anime doesn't make any sense. The zombie thing (which I missed somehow) doesn't happen in the manga.
Horohoro and Ren had to take time to decide what their new oversoul media would be... it isn't something you can choose on a whim. Furthermore, Ren didn't have the sword with him at that time, Jun gave it to him afterwards.
(They weren't the ones who beat the random shamans, anyway. That was Lys and Yoh. I think. I'm not good with the anime... I just remember that Lys looked ADORABLE in that episode.)

In the manga, Yoh meets Horohoro in the first fight, after he qualifies with Silva to participate in the tournament....he was initially surprised at Silva's oversoul, though.

So yeah... he was allowed to be surprised at the fact that Silva could use oversoul. In the manga, Yoh and Horo never meet before their designated fight. They mainly start off with talking, Horo "preparing" Yoh for the fight, and Horo and Manta beating up Yoh. Yoh's main surprises came from seeing Horo jump off of a building and then snowboard down, and to the power that a nature spirit like Kororo had. There also was an interesting bit where Anna wins a boxing title from knocking Horo senseless. |

I think yoh was surprised how horo could control that big snow and on top of that skate on it when it was about to cover him up.

what i don't understand is how horo could oversoul his snowboard any how. how would that really help, i didn't see that ep. but would he like hafta thwak them with it or something. i just don't see how it'd work. all the other mediums are actually weapons and stuff.
