Okay, this is a kind of random question, but in the anime, what do certain oversoul colors represent? I mean, Yoh's is white, Ren's is yellow, Lyserg's is white, Chocolove's is yellow, Faust's is green, Hao's is red... you get the picture. I've been trying hard to figure out whether there's some connection between the shaman or spirit and the color of the oversoul. But the spirit's clothing doesn't seem to have anything to do with it (after all, Morphin is pink), nor does anything having to do with the shaman themselves. The only thing I can think of is possibly the spirit's rank and/or the shaman's strength, and that doesn't make sense because * Amidamaru doesn't become a fairy until episode 42, and his oversoul color doesn't change *. Plus, Ren and Yoh are around the same strength. In short, I'm confused.
EDIT: Oops, wrong episode number in the spoiler-ish thing.

... *Fairy? O.o*
Um... I honestly don't think the color really means anything. I suppose they simply added the color that would best suit each spirit... For example, as you said, Yoh's is white (looks blue to me, but whatever), but in the colored pages from the manga, it's orange. So, I don't really know if it means anything, though it could, but it's not explained anywhere; anime or manga.

They apparently made a big deal about that change in episode 51, too.*
Really? It was orange in the colored pages of the manga? Well, that's what I get for not subscribing to Shonen Jump and only purchasing the graphic novel versions...

"fairy" is just one translation of the same consept.
***Basically, Amidamaru changed from a human spirit into a sword spirit. Basically, a true spirit as opposed to just a ghost.***
It should also be pointed out that "farie" doesn't necessarly refer to the small winged pixies we're used to seeing in books in the west. In European mythology, Faries could be the same size as people- sans wings. (exp- Elves are technically a type of farie) There's more to it, but I'm simplifying ^^; .
