I heard that Lovely really liked Full Metal Alchemist, and I recently got to see the first 10 episodes ^^ OMG it is aweeesome!!! I highly recommend it to anyone, its...its... just really diffiferent and amazing!! It's a action-adventure/comedy/fantasy and anyone who likes Shaman King would love it, I think. Plus its really sad T_T okay, i'm a sucker for sad stuff. I'm a really bad explainer >< so I won't try to explain it since its pretty complicated.

Is it licensed by someone or do we have to grab fansubs of it?

Nope not licensed yet T_T its pretty new in Japan too ehehe. And you dont need fansubs, i dont think- the subtitles i got were pretty official and I borrowed them from a friend who downloaded them from the Internet. And I know you can buy the first and second volumes (only up to ep.16 >> ) from animetoxic.com and theyre very inexpensive...if that helps ^^;;;

Erm... whenever you download anime off the internet they are either bootlegs or Fansubs. In your case, I'm assuming you got the fansubs (this is how I'm currently watching FMA). No, Full Metal Alchemist is not liscenced for a U.S release, YET. It is still a fairly new show in Japan. However, it seems that Funimation is currently trying to get the liscence. And honestly FMA is SUCH a good show that I'm sure it will be liscenced soon. I don't mind if Funi gets it as long as they put more than 3 episodes on each DVD. I'll definately be buying this when it comes out here. That said, FMA is a WONDERFUL show. I really can't imagine the souless being who WOULDN'T enjoy it . It really is a wonderful mix of genre's and yes, it can be really heatrbreaking at times. Very recomended. Oh, and for you VA fans out there. The voice of one of the main characters, Edward Elric, is none other than Romi Paku. You might be familiar with her work because she is also the voice of Ren from Shaman King ^_^ . Technically, Ms Paku is the reason I started watching FMA in the first place. I really love her voice, it's so... non-standard.

Yay, Paku Romi ROCKS! Paku Romi also voiced Ken from Digimon. :D

Well, what I meant was that it had good subtitles. ^^;;; I hadn't heard of fansubs til a little while ago *sweatdrops* I'm still new to the Internet sheesh I feel so old LMAO. Anyway, watch Full Metal Alchemist whoo hah! Nyah, and here's the official Full Metal Alchemist site...its in Japanese but look at the "Gallery", "On Air" and "DVD and CD" sections for pretty pictures muahaha... www.sonymusic.co.jp/Animation/hagaren/ And at this site, you can see previews for all 26 current episodes, and my favorite part is that you don't have to download em, theyre that easy!!! Wooyeah! *hates downloads >>* Plus they load fast heehee. But theyre in Japanese without subtitles and only last about 30 seconds or so each...ah well you get to hear Al's adorable voice and sometimes Edward's (Paku Romi's). OMG episode 27 is about Ed and Al's teacher! I was wondering about her. Man I don't get to see it. Ptooey. mbs.jp/hagaren/index2.html Lastly, FMA manga downloads (in ENGLISH!) here. Downloads. GRRR. mega-take up space downloads that I can't download because of all the space they take up. www.toriyamaworld.com/fma/fma1.html

Oh, FMA is wonderful.
And, Lovely, you said it's been liscensed now by 4Kids in your livejournal, right? By Funimation?
Hopefully, it will be given justice. I haven't really watched the stuff dubbed by Funimation, but, nyeh, better than letting 4Kids or Nelvana liscense it. I don't think they'd be able to pull it off. All the violence and stuph... yeah, they just couldn't pull it off right. I'm at least thankful for that.
... Paku Romi is probably the reason I begged my friend for more FMA. I'm a sucker for good seiyuu. ^___^
Oh, yeah! Paku Romi rocked as Ichijouji Ken!

Yep, Funimation has now offically stated that they have liscenced Fullmetal Alchemist. They announced it at E3 of all places 0_o . (E3 is the yearly big electronics show, it's normal for video games and the like to be announced, but I don't think an anime has EVER been announced there ^^; .)
The only thing that concerns me is that they want to put the show on Cartoon Network. Now, while I DO enjoy Adult Swim on the network, and AS HAS shown violent and serious things such as Cowboy Bebop without that many edits. The company of Funimation has an odd habit of OVER editing the stuff they put on that block. Oh well, I'm planning to buy the DVD's anyway, so I suppose it's not really THAT big of an issue. I hope the dub is good ^^ . (Lovely is both a strong dub AND sub fan).

Yeah, I think I'll probably end up buying the DVDs as well. Such a great series it is. <3 Roy Mustang. x3
I'm thinking the dub won't be too bad, but I can imagine Funi editing some stuff...

Funimation does the editting like that? I always thought it was CN that did the editting. I mean, Funi seems to be getting better now. Furuba, I heard, was well done.
As for FMA, you guys talking so much about it made me download the scanlations and fansubs and jeez, its suck a great show! Topped my list of animes. For the moment at least. xD I love the story; though the manga is, imo, much better... I can't wait until chapter 39 is released and scanlated. ^_^
And for Funi licensing it, doesn't seem too bad. Voices might suck though... I'll buy the DVDs in any case, since they'll have the original subbed in it. >P

Funi doesn't edit thier DVD's, the just edit what they put on t.v. For the most part, what they cut and leave in can be very... odd 0_o. Doesn't bother me too much though. I'm just gonna buy the DVD's anyway .

On the website dubReview, they currently have video up from a con convention where the english VA for Fullmetal gushes about the show. He has such enthusiasm for it, that even though I'm already a fan of the series, he makes me feel even MORE excited about it. Add to that the fact that Vic is just adorable ^.^ .

Actually, Paku Romi isn't the only SK seiyuu in FMA...
Riza Hawkeye- Michiko Neya (Jun Tao) Wrath- Nana Mizuki (Tamao Tamamura) Lust- Yuuko Satou (Yoh) Elisa (little girl in episodes 11-12)- Motoko Kumai (Chocolove) Lujon (episode 35)- Takehito Koyasu (Faust VIII) Kayal (episode 9)- Tomoko Kawakami (Pirika, Mina) ((also is Hikaru in Hikaru no Go, BTW)) Belshio (episodes 11-12)- Toshihiko Seki (not sure who, but I think he was on one of the teams they fought in either Faust or Ryu's episode near the end) Kimbley- Ueda Yuuji (Horohoro)
So, we've got, what... Yoh, Ren, Horohoro, Faust, Chocolove... if only Ryu were there, we'd have the main shamans...
