That, and I believe the Kaoru -> Kori and Yahiko -> Yoshi changes are in the Philippine version of the anime.
I know the North American RuroKen doesn't change names.
EDIT: I heard the Samurai X versions have name changes...

Back in 1996, people ate up the Sailor Moon dub. In modern-day standards, it's pretty bad, though. Nelvana is still on the top of my list as the worst dubbing company ever for what they did to Cardcaptor Sakura. Cardcaptor Sakura is my favorite mahou shoujo anime, but Cardcaptors is on the top of my list of worst English adapations. Even though they did license an official subbed version which I'm very grateful for, what Nelvana did is still unforgivable. 4Kids is next on my list of worst dubbing companies. I think we can all agree that Yugioh's English adapation, well, sucks. At least they're starting to learn, and provide us with official subbed versions of their anime series, but they still need to work on producing more accurate dubs. After 4Kids, DiC is number three on my list of top worst dubbing companies. They really screwed up with Sailor Moon, by changing names, music, parts of the plot, and character personality changes. Sailor Moon's English adapation isn't as bad as others, but it's still far from being perfect. I haven't seen DiC's edited adapation of Saint Seiya yet, but I haven't heard great things about it, either. At least DiC allows official English subbed versions of their anime, but still..... |

EDIT: I heard the Samurai X versions have name changes... resurie just mentioned that, yo. >_O In 'Samurai X' Kaoru is changed to 'Kori', and Yahiko is changed to 'Yoshi'. Their last names are kept though. Oh and, Suzume (Thats her name right?) is changed to 'Suzie' I forgot the other girls name, but it is kept. All other names have been kept (that includes all of Kenshin's attacks and junk). They even say 'Amakakiro no Hirameki' (I know for A FACT I must've spelled that wrong didn't I?...T_T) |

Worst Dub companies.... Hmm..... Well, I don't watch anime often cause I usually hide under my stacks of manga, away from the warfire of dubs and subs, but from what I've seen, I can't really compare.  I don't want to bash since, well, despite the lack of effort, they still put some effort in it to import it, dub it, despite lacks, DESPITE LACKS!, and people without computers watch the dub, not knowing another damn thing about it.  But I speak nonsense. The only thing I know about big companies are that money is generally everything. I wonder if anyone has any dub companies they actaully like.  No way...^^; I'll shut up on that now. >> |

Well, thanks to my friend with a highspeed connection, I've seen subbed Digimon. And, honestly, I prefer the dub. Saban weren't all that edit crazy, sure "Davis Cries Wolfmon" didn't make any sense edited like that, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I love the Digimon dub, forever and ever!
4Kids....must.......die! Especially for what they did to Shadow the Hedgehog.
In the game: "My name is Shadow. I'm the world's Ultimate Lifeform. There's no time for games.....farewell!" *chaos controls away in silence*
On Sonic X: "I have a feeling that I should make myself scarce. Goodbye Sonic, it certainly was a pleasure meeting you. Chaos Control now!"
Sheesh, next thing you know, Shadow will be asking Sonic to have tea and crumpets with him on his yaught. His voice is too deep, and it bothers me intensely.
Oh yes, in the dub Sonic X the government soldiers "took Maria away". WHAT IN THE NAME OF HOLY HELL IS THAT?! Yeah, they took away her dead, bullet holed, shot wound, DEAD body!
I just know they're gonna cut a scene where Shadow beats the sh*t outta Chris. CRAP, I hate Chris and would love to see my favorite character beat him senseless.
I need to cope with this....is there a support group I can join?
Hmm, another good dubber would have to Viz concerning Inuyasha. I think they do a wonderful job dubbing Inuyasha, and I simply love Sesshoumaru's dub voice.
4Kids doesn't do too bad a job with Pokémon, and they're somewhat improving with Shaman King, but Yu-gi-oh has been butchered beyond recognition and what they did to Shadow and they story surrounding him is unforgivable.......

thanx to my wonderful compy,i don't have to worrie about dubs for overall information,but i watch so i know wut the hell went wrong with all perfect animes that are snached
i have to say i hate 4kids and FUNI more than anything,cuz of wut 4kids did to shaman king and One Piece,and wut FUNI did to FMA and Detective Conan

I watch very few dubs now days, but I'd have to go with everybody else on this one. 4kids. They try there best, but still, they just don't quite get the concept that anime, is NOT the same as a cartoon.

How could you hate what FUNi did to FMA? And: 1. The title change from Detective Conan to Case Closed was done to avoid a lawsuit. 2. The licensor of the anime, TMS Entertainment, ordered the names to be changed. I wonder if anyone has any dub companies they actaully like. No way...^^; I like FUNimation(they started out horrible, but they've improved drastically as of late - look at Yuyu Hakusho for example). Tokyopop is semi-decent, whoever dubbed Gundam SEED earned some respect(not a whole lot, though - Disco guns! ARGH!), and Bang Zoom did a good job on Kenshin(only real changes were some edits needed for it to air on Toonami). |

ShoPro does more than Hamtaro, MegaMan NT Warrior, and InuYasha - They also do a variety of series, e.g. Doraemon. Viz does InuYasha.ShoPro is Viz's sister company.And they haven't even released any details on Doraemon barely.They haven't even said who's voicing who or when it will air on tv.They've licensed Selfish Fairy Mirumo de Pon(which they renamed Mirmo www.mirmo-zibang .com),Monkey Turn,and Konjiki no Gash Bell(renamed Zatch Bell and airing on CN this spring).ShPro's dubs have some of the worst soundtracks.They are really cheesy and are reused repeatedly used in all of their series.They are also responsible for Monster Rancher.Whoever dubbed Flint the Time Detective and Mon Colle Knights(Saban) also suck. |
