I saw the Fullmetal Alchemist dub and it looks reasonable to me. I have no idea why people would be so upset over FMA... =/

In FMA, they have changed character personalities (Ed and Winry were not mean in the original), as well as slightly changed dialogue to things which will MAJORLY affect the series later on. I'm also fearful for the editing they have to do to tonight's episode, because it is 40 seconds longer than the episodes they have previously aired.

What do you mean "Ed was not mean"? - Show me situations where this applies to... Ed punched out some guy in the ep I watched, and surely that can be described as "mean", and surely that happened in the original. My friend KT Kore watches both versions of FMA, and he says so far, no personalities have been changed. I haven't seen Winry at ALL in the TV dub. How was the dialogue changed? There's a guy on the FUNi forums who believes that the FMA dub is perfectly fine (for a TV dub) - Once I show him this link, he'll prolly tear it apart  - He mentioned people who got upset over the FMA dub with venom in his mouth... But then again, I don't see that much contempt over the dub, so he won't get that angry. I think "Roze" is a Japanese pronunciation of "Rose". As for the "self-centered" dialogue tweak (I wouldn't call that too much of a change) - It plays perfectly into my mind. Having them mention it as something not personal sounds almost non-human to me (c'mon, their bodies are changed - how could it not be personal..  ) "He also originally says that since they're travelers, they wouldn't know that there IS a spring of wine, not that kids can't drink from it (which is the dub's implication... shesh... Ed's a genious, not an idiot)." Heck, I confused some pink margarita mix for pink lemonade - One can't tell what a drink is just from seeing it shot from a fountain... As for "name change" - it's more or less an approximate translation of an honorific, not a change of the name itself. "In the original, Rose never said 'it's alright if you don't have an offering.' Personally, I find this line offensive. I have never seen a church where guests were required to give offerings. In fact, at my church, we make a point of saying during the offering that guests don't need to give anything, that it's for the members. This line just rubs me the wrong way." The Sun god church isn't exactly a real life church... "How in the world does 'old man' translate to 'holy bastard'?" In what sentence was "old man" used? Maybe he said it with contempt, like "geezer" or "fogey"... Japanese has many ways to say words like "I" "Okay, originally their village was pronounced "Risenbul" or "Rizenbul". In the dub it is "Resembool". The letter Roy shows, however, in BOTH versions, does read "Resembool." " Pronunciations tend to be Japanized. E.G. YuYu Hakusho's Shaolin was pronounced "Shorin", which meant that FUNi named him "Shorin" in their dub. |

I have to agree with the vote for Cardcaptors . (the relationships) was just insulting. Well, i thought sakura and syaron (i spelled this wrong!) is quite young to have a relation ship. How old are they?? umm 10 or something? I mean, they seam a little too young to have a relationship and everything, but i have to agree, the dub was terrible. all the parts are like cut out. Tomoyo's dub name, Madison make me think of Medicine.... dont't hey sound alike? When i frist heard her dub name i was like Medicine? who is ever named medicine? After wards i found out it was madison. But i agree with resurie that it is crazy how they changed Tomoyo into Madison. How they get that name out of the old original one? KidsWB (i think) cut out all the relationships. i think, well at least i don't remember watching it from there. at least that is like a long time ago. The voices were okay for some characters but for kero.. i am not sure if i like the change... i have to say there are allot of terrible dubs.... i wonder why US never make as much anime as japan. I think there are more anime luvers here in US than japan (my thought....) i mean all those people who never saw anime before (because they are not from japan) ought the like it. I think there should be more english anime drawers to produce more anime for the US instead of teaking the original from japan and changing everything. did anyone ever wonder why US made BAD animated cartoon series and not more anime? |

Sakura starts out in the series as being only 10 years old and in the fourth grade. As the series progresses, she changes grades etc, and naturally becomes older. By the start of the second season, she's already in the fifth grade, and I believe she's in the sixth grade in Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card. So, by the time of the second movie, Sakura would be at least around 12 years old, so I'd say by then she's old enough to fall in love.
And how the heck could Japanese animation be more popular in the U.S. than in Japan? You do realize that Japanese animation is made in Japan, right? That would be like saying Disney movies are more popular in Japan than in America. >< And I think the reason why the Japanese don't make their own animated series specifically for the U.S. is because any attempts to do so in the past have sucked.
Just take a look at Robotech 2: The Sentinels for proof of that. If I'm not mistaken, the second season of Big O was also produced by the Japanese for America, and I seem to remember hearing that that season didn't do as well as the first season, but I'm not 100% accurate about that information, so don't quote me on it.

And the US are more populated than Japan is. That is what i mean. I know that anime is created in Japan, it just that... allot of people here in US is like totally in LOVE with anime. Well, yeah true. the japanese anime series for the US are kinda bad. But I think the people LIVING in US should make some anime shows. Like producers of bad animated cartoons. I think some people int he US should make a anime show for the US. Almost all the anime shows here came from Japan. Have there ever been a US anime series (Made by a person in US) that is used in Japan? |

Cardcaptors
Sailor Moon- and the uncut dub is worse than the edited one
Yu-Gi-Oh- and for the records, they do say "kaado no kokoro" ("heart of the cards") in the first episode.
One Piece- so many obvious edits...
Mew Mew Power- from what I've heard.
