The "Worst Dub Companies!" thread inspired me on this one...It's been haunting my mind for a while.... 'Tis simple fellow SKU members, simply post which dub you thought was the WORST. The motherload of bad dubs. A dub so bad it should be taken off television! (If it hasn't already... ) For me, it's none other than "CaaarrrdCaaptoooorrrss!!" -ahem- sorry.... Lovely's going to shoot me now...Why? Man, must I really explain WHY? Cardcaptors in my opinion was the worst dub of them all...the changes, the cuts, the edits---there's just too many to mention!! The worst thing for me was Tomoyo's "attitude adjustment" (resurie's bet on what Nelvana called it ). It was simply wrong! I mean...seriously, how can they get from Tomoyo to Madison? It still confuses me to this day... Oh, of course, we can't forget the opening! "The secrets of the CLAU, were all a mysTOryyy, but when this mighty book was opened, it's poWER was set FREEEE!!" Looks like someone in the CC staff never got through first grade grammar... The voices! Dear Lord the voices! If I ever hear Kero say "Expect the Unexpected" again in his scoffy sarcastic voice, I'll shoot myself! Hence the reason for my personal text. *points to text under her avatar* Bouncing around like a damn jack-rabbit through the entire series doesn't help either! Nor is it helpful to cut the first seven episodes! >_O *goes crazy* I would go on~ believe me, but I don't want to make the opening post too long. Plus, I hate Cardcaptors more than Hilary Duff, and well...I don't want to go too crazy and hurt someone...o_0 Tomoyo-chan shall be avenged!! EDIT: Oh, one more thing, I didn't really know where to put this thread..."Anime and Manga" didn't feel right...but I just ended up putting it in the same forum as "Worst Dub Companies"...^^;;

I have to agree with the vote for Cardcaptors . Cutting out the ENTIRE half of the plot of the series (the relationships) was just insulting. I felt betrayed when I found out about it. For people not in the know, Cardcaptors Uncensored . We were EXTREMELY lucky that Nelvana sublicened the series to Pioneer and the entire subtitled version ("Cardcaptor Sakura") can currently be found on DVD. It was a good seller as I recal as well ^_^ .

Saint Seiya
Seriously, the VAs were horrible, the dub was made by Dic, the theme was sung by "Bowling for Soup", the blood was blue and they turned it into a comedy show.

And DiC's influence can be seen today in the Knights of the Zodiac manga. I'm not sure if DiC made Viz do it or if Viz decided to tie into it to reduce confusion for Americans, but I heard that Viz' manga is actually closer to the original Japanese Saint Seiya - as the DiC dub failed in North America, Viz has no choice but to get as close as humanly possible to the original Japanese.

The Knights of the Zodiac dub wasn't perfect,but it's better than the Sailor Moon dub.

Cardcaptor Sakura is by far my most favorite mahou shoujo anime to date, and Cardcaptors continues to remain on my list as the single worst English adapation produced of all time. So, as a fan of the original, Nelvana just had to make it difficult for me, especially when dealing with dubbies. I think the biggest mistake in Cardcaptors was....well, it was letting Nelvana dub it in the first place. You do not take a mahou shoujo anime, and try to turn it into a Pokemon rip-off, and expcet it to be a success. You just don't do that; it's just not right. Nelvana ruined a wonderful series, that not only appealed to little girls, but also to boys, teenagers, and even adults, reducing it to the same juvenile level most Saturday American cartoons are at, that can only be enjoyed by the youngest of kids.
The awful English voice cast, the boring monotone English music, the numerous plot/character personality changes, and the omittion of all relationships whatsoever is enough to give one a migrane just thinking about it. Like Lovely-chan, I'm grateful that Nelvana was at least sensible enough to allow Pioneer to release the Japanese version on DVD, but I still think Cardcaptor Sakura could've been dubbed a lot more accurately with far less cuts and changes.
However, I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that only about 30-something episodes were ever aired in the U.S. I have heard that the episodes which were aired in English-speaking countries outside the U.S. only are actually more accurate to the Japanese version than the episodes which were aired in the U.S., although they're still far from being perfect. Oh yeah, and it's "the POWERS was set free." Sorry, I'm just nitpicky about this kind of stuff. ^^;;

Any anime I have ever seen dubbed I have watched through to the end. I never get to see to much anime due to my lack of cable.
I did not, however stay with Cardcaptors. I didn't think it was too bad at first, but I just got totally bored with it after a few weeks. And apparently so did everyone else, since it never finished. It did get dropped right? I don't know since I lost interest.

the anime that was poorly done, imo, was gravitation. the entier male cast sounded like it was done by 1 guy. at least they left the music in it's originallity.
so, as a fan of gravi, i was very disapointed in it's dub form.

The thing I heard was that Nelvana DID dub all the CCS episodes, and that it was KidsWB which only aired a few. In Canada, Teletoon (I believe) aired all of the episodes. (In the order they should be too!) Now, this doesn't make sense to me...because then Nelvana would have had to make two dubs, because the one on the WB usually followed it's twisted storyline...that's probably the more accurate thing you mentioned, about the ones in other english countries being more accurate. Like the WATER episode "Allies", the KidsWB version wouldn't have made sense in Canada... It's the same with Pokemon. The episode in which Ash meets May's parents, the WB version had the pokeball symbol on the badge case removed, and replaced with a green triangle o_0. The version I watch on Cartoon Network (in english thanks to SAP!) has the pokeball symbol untouched...

In the US, 39 episodes of cardCRAPtors was aired. Remembering back when I used to go to CCU, I believe that the US and Canadian/Australian dubs were the same in content (possibly slightly different visually), the difference was the opening (in Australia they dubbed Catch Me Catch You), and the number of episodes played. I can't vouch for Australia, but I still don't believe all the episode were aired.

Well, giving Cardcaptors a break, I think the worst ever dub is Duel Masters. It's gotten so much bad stuff done to it, especially with their "Funny jokes" that take away mystery, plot, and interest!

That wouldn't be the Taichi dub voice, would it? The one who tries to pronounce Japanese whenever he duels as Shobu, and says it the wrong way all the time?

@_@!!!
Okay, I now change my vote for the worst dub to that song. Dude, you even left the expect the unexpected part.*pulls out moderator pistols
........You are so dead......... >_< *starts shooting wildy at horohorokyoyama
I mean you took the worst dub opening and put Mankin lyrics in. How long did it take you to do this? It actually keeps rythym. You are scaring me now. I've been shot for just singing the original theme to Cardcaptors!!!! Time to continue the grand tradition!! >:) *continues to shoot at horohorokyoyama
