Dessa in the dub of Digimon Tamers Kazu comments on Takato's goggles by calling him Yolieh (I have no idea on how to spell her name. Yolee?). So there is at least one reference to the earlier seasons. That was probably a dub addition though.

I just want to say Yuugiouu isn't really ripping off Magic:The Gathering any more than it ripped off pokemon in it's capsule monster chess chapters in the Manga, it's just a tribute to them. Plus Duel Masters anime/Manga do kind of suck. (Just in case you didn't realise, I like Yuugiouu)

There's a reason I've been staying away from this thread. I don't believe in these threads. I agree with ones asking people's opinions on bad dubs, as the dubs are changes to the original piece of artwork, and for many people (myself included), they find the fact that the artwork is changed in the first place to be damaging to the integrity (which is why I love that GitS2 is subtitled-only). I'm sorry you don't like this. My intention was to see what animes people don't like. I didn't want anybody keep on saying 'hate'. And I like Pokemon too (mainly because of Pikachu but if people don't like it, it's their opinion.

[quote author=Dessa link=board=anime&thread=1102790832&start=58#3 date=1104650419 Duel Masters vs. Yu-Gi-Oh!No, Duel Masters isn't ripping off Yu-Gi-Oh!. In a way, you can say that Yu-Gi-Oh! is ripping off Duel Masters. While I don't know exactly what's going on in the manga (I only have one chapter), the card game itself is Magic. The Yu-Gi-Oh! card game is obviously 'inspired' by Magic ('inspired' is the word used by companies who don't want to fess up to 'copying', whether they did copy or not), so you can look at the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game as being 'ripped off' of the Duel Masters card game (most copywrited material is changed from manga to anime. That is why Jiipu is named 'Hakuryuu' in Saiyuki... 'Jiipu' is Japanese for 'Jeep'). Digimon 'Seasons'There are NOT four seasons of Digimon. There are three SERIES of Digimon. Because of how it was released in the US, most people don't realize this. While there are many series (Sailor Moon, Dragonball, etc.) that have different titles for different seasons, Digimon is not one of those. Let me review: Digimon Adventures- Series with 2 seasons. Known as "Digimon" and "Digimon Season 2" in the US. Digimon Tamers- Series with 1 season. Known as "Digimon Season 3" in the US. ONLY connection with first series is that in the universe (completely different from Adventures' universe) that Tamers takes place in, Digimon is a popular anime and card game (take note that in the original, it is not mentioned specifically that the anime is Digimon Adventures. Takato does not name any characters by name). Digimon Frontier- Series with 1 season. Known simply as "Digimon" or "Digimon Season 4" in the US. No connection whatsoever to the first two seasons. Tenkuu no Escaflowne dubwww.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Taping/6785/esca.htmlThere's the best website I know of for the changes to the Escaflowne dub. It's also, I believe, the second of the 'uncensored' websites (although they don't use the name). Only 6 or 7 episodes were aired (depends on your area, however, the dub ran through episode 9 of the original, due to heavy editing.[/quote]Sorry for going off-topic here, but just out of curiosity, which anime came first? Duel Masters or Yugioh: Duel Monsters? I don't know anything about Duel Masters expect that it and Yugioh: Duel Monsters have a lot of similarities between each other, but if Duel Masters was released first, Yugioh: Duel Monsters was most likely inspired by it, because at the beginnning of the Yugioh manga's graphic novels, it mentions that the author, Takeshi Kazuki-san (I think I got his surname right...) was a big fan of games. There are actually five series of Digimon. The "second season" of Digimon Adventure is the second series and is called "Digimon 02". And yes Jr., the mentioning of Yolei's name in the first episode of Digimon Tamers was an invention of the English adaption. If I remember correctly, in the original Hirokazu asked Takato why he was wearing the goggles, but never mentioned any Digimon character's name. It also wouldn't make any sense for him to compare Takato's goggles to Yolei's because Yolei never wore goggles; she only wore glasses. It was Daisuke/Davis that wore goggles in Digimon 02. And the rest of Escaflowne was adapted into an English edited version....it just wasn't ever aired in the U.S. Sorry for going off-topic again.

CrystalStar- I refuse to watch Pocket Monsters anymore... they ruined my favorite character.
Takato- There are CURRENTLY only 3 series of Digimon. The newest series is not yet released (or if it is, it's only just been). And no, Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02 are NOT different series. Digimon Adventure 02 is a direct continuation of Digimon Adventure. The first three movies (possibly the 4th, too, I haven't seen it) also go with this series.
I don't have the dates for the DM and YGO manga (always go by manga dates, anime come later most of the time), but by my February 2000 issue of KoroKoro Comics (which would've been released December 1999 or January 2000), it was already well into DM (YGO was in Jump, not Korokoro, and I don't have any old Jump issues). I'm thinking that while the YGO manga may have come first, as they don't get into the cards for a while, the start of DM and where the YGO cards came probably was about the same timeframe.

Your're probably right Dessa, the first volume of yuugiouu was originally published in 1996, Duel monsters/Magic and wizards came in Duel 9, the 2nd chapter of volume 2.

If Digimon 02 isn't a different series just because it's a continuation of Digimon Adventure, why do people call the different "seasons" of Sailor Moon "series", when each "series" of Sailor Moon is a continuation of the previous one?

Sailor Moon has 5 seasons, not 5 series. Each season of SM is a direct continuation of the previous one, roughly based upon the manga. It's the same as Dragonball. Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT are really the same show (although due to the time differences, and the changes in the direction of the show, many do consider them separate, but related, series).

If you read his website, Hitoshi Doi is not a natural English speaker, and doesn't have the greatest handle on the language... I caught quite a few errors in his grammar on some of his pages (man, I haven't been there in ages...).

I have the official English subtitled release of the Sailor Moon DVDs from ADV, and in episode 89 the Sailor Senshi are talking about Sailor Moon S, and they refer to it several times as being a new "series." I've also heard that Japan calls their seasons "series". I think the UK does this too, but I'm not 100% positive about it, so don't quote me on that one...

That awards definitely goes to most hentai anime and KIRBY, I hate that show and the fact that they show it before Mankin. I also loathe F Zero GP or whatever it's called. It's horrible!

Where has this thread gone? Oh yeah worst anime.... I really hope we don't have to see a 4kids Naruto. That will probably top my list. but for Naruto's popularity...I'm surpised 4kids haven't been getting their filthy hands on it, I seriously think they might though. That awards definitely goes to most hentai anime and KIRBY, I hate that show and the fact that they show it before Mankin. I also loathe F Zero GP or whatever it's called. It's horrible! I don't hate anime with H content but is not really about H(they only shows stuff like that when nesserary). I hate animes with a guy who lives with bunch of large chest girls, with storylines that have no real point other then...having a guy living with bunch of large chest girls. and sometimes I don't like anime just because it's before Mankin, like F Zero...although I don't like it anyways, even when I wasn't impatiently waiting for Mankin. I don't hates Kirby though, since it's purly a kids show.

While I am actually very open to most anime, I found Samurai Showdown and Inuyasha both to be quite bad. SS is a danger to everyones IQ, and Inuyasha is Cliche on a DVD disk. I happen to enjoy quality series...hence trash doesn't suit my tastes.
