Most of my friends are all anime fans, but some of the boys in one of my classes think I like porn. >_>;; Conversation: Me: You're weird. Boy 1: You're the weird one! You read that anime stuff! Me:  ; I *read* manga. Anime is the cartoons; the animation. Boy 2: Hey, anime!? That's stuff's, like, porn! Me: What!? *whaps boy on head* It is not, moron! And a lame argument about what anime is ensued. >_> My sister also thinks I'm "Un-American" because I like Japanese candy and "eat it more" than American candy. -_-; Conversation: Me: And also on my list there are these two DVD things, and lots of Japanese candy- Sister: You should stop eating Japanese candy. It's dumb. You should be loyal to your own country and stop being all Japanese. We don't live in Japan, (insert real name here)! You're always eating that stuff, and you never, like eat our candy. Me: >_>; I do too. Sister: You do not! And we argued.  |

i don't really have a lot of friends, but as far as i know, they have'nt complained about my (unhealthy) obsession.

If you don't have any friends into anime yet, I suggest you hold out for them. It took me years to find people with similar interests (10+ moves, too) and the years sitting alone in the lunchroom writing were worth. I hate being around all those make-up valley girls, I don't think I could be friends with them.
So now I get to sit around and have anime marathons with them, and someone to borrow manga from too ;D
Only my friends understand me, everyone else just thinks I'm crazy/geeky/weird/loser/too smart, whatever.
Tell them it's British candy, then. You can't go wrong there.

And Kawaii Kenni, I understand about that, but hey, you can't tell everyone in the world about the difference between anime and cartoons since they could be taken for the same thing 'cept that anime is from Japan. And about the 'Japanese are seen as inferior'....hey, be glad they even know what Japanese is and I think you know the reason as to why many people are racist about that... Think Pearl Harbor. And I have no idea what I said now....=.= There's a problem with that. Only a few people in my age group would actually know of Pearl Harbour and the whole Japanese thing during WWII, and that's because they know way too much about history and read books on it. Basicly people at my school are idiots.When I was 6th grade I got into manga(I was into anime first then manga ^,^; and brought one of my Sailor Moon manga books that day and all the @$$-hole boys in my class said that it porn!! Yeah like Sailor Moon is porn! I know what you mean. I brought in an anime DVD, two in fact, and immediately, my "friends" branded it as porn, just because it had a 12 rating on it. |

I know the the whole "all anime is porn" as well from middle school. When I first brought in a copy of a manga and was reading it in the library and I could hear the boys behind me whispering that it was porn. Most people who've never actually watched anime don't seem to realise that an awful lot of it isn't hentai.

The thing is a lot of hentai is made with anime-like characters, so people automatically brand all anime as porn.

Can't people get it throught their thick heads that not all anime is porn!
Oh and Kida.I wish I could get Japanese candy, like pocky, for christmas.My grandma went to Epcot with my grandpa and got me some chewy strawberry and Cherry things which taste great.so that's the only time I got some.My mom and sister think I'm weird.And my little brother who watchs anime with me thinks I'm weird for being on the computer all day on this forum ^_^;
Oh and my dad was really bugging me when we went to china town on New Year's Day and we went in to this little side shop(Which was heaven because it had great anime stuff!! ;D) and he saw some wall scrolls and started asking me if i knew the name of this anime while I was looking through stuff(I'm shocked that I knew most of them! )
So basically only three people in my family that understand about my anime 'Obession'(My dad,my little brother and my cousin,who is more of an otaku then me.(He's a know it all and I hate know it alls)) |

My friends don't think anime is porn, (they've seen CCS...) but they do know about Hentai...sadly because of me...^^;; I told them about it to prove anime wasn't a "kids' thing". Apparently, they excited to see some...how so? Well~ let's put it this way... Me: *drawing...um...Anna? o_0* some guy: nice drawing... me: thanks... guy: why don't you draw hentai? me: what?! guy: you should draw hentai! me: >< noooo OR it could go like this! some other guy: can you draw me hentai? me: NO T_T guy: aw come on! I'll pay you! me: >< no! I swear...if they ask me one more time....>_O ah, but I'm on vacation...and they sort of got the point already. XD There is this one guy, he doesn't ask me to draw it, but when he was reading an essay I did on anime, he tapped me on the shoulder, pointed to the word "hentai" and gave me a thumbs up...o_0 When in fact, I wrote "hentai" simply as an example of adult anime...>< |

"Hentai" doesn't even have the same meaning in Japan  - In Japan, it means "pervert" and is never used to refer to pornographic media. In Japan, one should use "H this" and "H that" to refer to pornographic media. Strange porn can be referred to as "ecchi" (or etchi in standard Hepburn) |

I was aware of the true meaning, but nearly everyone generalises anime pornography into "hentai" or "ecchi", so I'd thought I'd better use the term.

I think the topic is going from what yur friends think to other people thinking you read henti... i can't beleive people will actually draw henti out of real anime character from GOOD shows...! It just not right!
Oh yeah, speaking of japanese candy, I LOVE POCKY! I tried all the flavors. The straberry covers, teh chocolate, the multi flavors, the vanilla, etc.! they are SOOO GOOD! i always try to gett he coverings off the pretzel stick without it breaking.. (a little game of mine that i play when i am bored) pockies r sooo goood! i like other japanese candies too like those japanese crackers... o_0 i can't even read the label... once i brought japanese candy (pocky, crackers, sweets etc.) to school for a snak and my friends were like "what the hell are you eating??!" then everyone want to try some. Sorta cause a big chaos.
From my point of view, chinese candies are weird....didn't anyone notcie that everything we buy it have like a 70% chance that the things we got are made from china? (okay, i am really getting off topic)

If there's anything, there are the people who like anime so much they want to become Japanese and think they are the best. Now, I'm not saying anything bad but before they come to judge a nationality, whether it's good or bad, shouldn't they know more than the outside? Such as history or so. But even so, they think Japan is the best and say they will move there, etc etc etc. >> I hope that didn't seem racist...= I feel lucky now...because although I really don't have much friends, the ones I have likes anime, I'm surrounded by people who likes anime~(maybe is because I avoid contects with the preps...but oh well). And there's people who worships Japan just for it's pop culture...there's more to a country then samurai and DDR  yeah,that annoyings me somewhat. oh yeah~my best friend is Korean and she reads Korean anime, they are mostly romance, but she mostly likes romance. some of them are alright(one of them is actually good), but I don;t really likes some of the art. Yeah like Sailor Moon is porn! It's only porn in their sick minds |

And they think I'm kinda weird because of the shota loving, though the guys look at hentai, the girls... well... don't.
