I hate all dub names that are changed completely to try to make the characters western...they are not, OK? I think even a five years old knows that!

they might not know about the names, but most people have enough sense to know they are Japanese anime. five years olds are a exaggeration, but most people who watch anime know that.

Actually, when I was little, I thought the Japanese names were stupid and made no sense and the dub names were cool. XD
Now that I'm older, it's the other way around.

actually it depends on the character's personality for me. I mean, if a person is mean, vicious, and everything and in the dub they get a puny name.. that will REALLY irked me. it really depends on the person's personality. I thikn you guys hate dub names because you are so used to the japanese names. When you watch the dub version of everything FIRST then the original one, you will be making complaints about the japanese names! trust me, I have tried this, and the names of the dub sound better to me when i watched the dub before the japanese version. Its amazing how the human mind works.. (that was random..)

They also want kids to not only be able to pronounce them, but to be able to identify them. Although I don't see how Taichi had to be shortened to Tai in Digimon Season one.
I mean Beyblade has a character called Daichi! It's practically the same name.

NewBee was definately right about the yuugiouu name changes. I mean come on Rex Raptor, Weevil Underwood! Who knows what 4Kids were smoking when they made up those.

from Sailor Moon:
Tsukino Usagi=Serena- even the English manga gives her as "Bunny", a direct translation of her name. by calling her "Serena", it completely gives away her identity as Neo-Queen Serenity (who the dub called "Princess Serena").
from Yu-Gi-Oh:
Anzu Mazaki=Tea Gardner- what a strange name. Otogi=Duke Devlin (sp?)- how this came about, Kami only knows.
from Shaman King:
Manta Oyamada=Morty- I think "Monty" would have made more sense. (not that I condone it)
from Tokyo Mew Mew:
ALL OF THEM.
from Pocket Monsters:
all of the monster names, especially the ones that were already in English. also the minor character and Rocket Dan names.
and all 4kids dub-characters with surname "Taylor". most of the people who word for 4kids are Taylors. you can figure out the rest.
that's all I can think of right now.

"Morty" is a pun for the Latin words for death. There's nothing 4Kids could do about the Pokemon names - Nintendo made them up. Manta Oyamada=Morty- I think "Monty" would have made more sense. (not that I condone it) from Tokyo Mew Mew: ALL OF THEM. from Pocket Monsters: all of the monster names, especially the ones that were already in English. also the minor character and Rocket Dan names.

Well.... a good number of the pokemon name changes either make sense, because they are based off of puns anyways.
Example= Nyasu= "Nya" the eastern sound a cat makes. Meowth= "Meow" the western sound a cat makes
In the case of Team Rocket/Rocket Dan.
Jesse James = A famous, western, gun slingin' outlaw.
Kojiro and Musashi: Famous Japanese swordsmen.
That's how things were in the begining of the series anyways. I wouldn't know how far things have come nowadays...

And don't forget about Jesse and James's nemesis Butch and Cassidy.
Butch Cassidy: Another famous western outlaw.
I do like how they always make fun of Butch's name though. Bud!! ;D

Well.... a good number of the pokemon name changes either make sense, because they are based off of puns anyways. true, some name changes (like Meowth and Cacnea) are direct translations, but still... I wouldn't like it if my name was directly translated, nessesarily. for example, my real name is Sarah, which could be translated as either "princess" or "plate". that could cause some confusion... OK, back to the worst dub names: I also dislike incorrect name pronunciations, especially reguarding names with a "u" in the second syllable. come to think of it, the only dubs in which I've heard these names said correctly are YuYu Hakusho and Sakura Taisen.
