Is it just me or does anyone else out there prefer the American names to the Original?
Rio - Ryu I could go with either
Len - Ren It's just one letter
Trey - Horohoro Trey sounds much better
Zeke - Hao I prefer Zeke
Manta - Morty I actually prefer Manta to Morty

1) If this topic is pretty much just Shaman King names, and standing up for 4Kids, put it in the 4Kids section or Shaman King section.
2) If this is just about Shaman King name changes, put it in the Shaman King section.
3) If this is about name changes in general anime, put it in the anime section.

I..umm...hmmm...
I'm going to assume that this is just Shaman King related since that is all OHWceta has written about so I'm going to move this to the 4kids Shaman King section.

The trouble with Rio and Len are the associations. I mean, how can I not think of singing Duran Duran "her name is Rio and she dances on the sand" and calling him "Lenny" is cheesy. Like those Denny's commericals "Oh, we love coming here to eat at Lenny's...*other lady* That's DENNY'S.

Is it just me or does anyone else out there prefer the American names to the Original? Just you . They are JAPANESE characters. It doesn't matter to me that they have Japanese names. Ren- Len . That's not a change, it's just a different way to romanise the name.

Lovely: Yes, but when they change it to Lenny...*shivers*
Hao-Zeke WTF? I guess it's just an opinion... HAO! *cough*
Horo- Trey How could they nickname Horokeu Trey? How could they change his last name to Racer? How could they destroy the entire meaning of his name? Because they're 4kids and they have the legal right to, that's how.

Megaman or Rockman, I could go with either
Roll stays the same
Protoman sounds much better than Blues
Fireman is too Generic, Torchman is much better, escpecially since he looks like a walking torch
and Bass, Treble, or Forte at least he gets a midly ok name
and back to Shaman King
What kind of a name Is Chocolove? I think 4 kids did them a favor Changing it to Jocco

*twitch*
come on now... i know it's all opinion, but what makes "Joco" better than "Chocolove"? Well, it's not really the name change that bothers me about Choco, ITS HIS GODDAM VOICE!!! grrr, tat kinda obscures the name change.
Hao, personally i think Hao sounds so much cooler...Zeke kinda came outta nowhere (i kno, i kno all about the Ezekiel stuff, but still), but the fangirls probably know better than me. <_<
you do realize that these changes happen because 4kids doesn't wanna offend anyone right?

I am against name changes, no matter how much 'better'. Some i can sort of stand but I really get annoyed when they change real names into crap. Take 'Marik' for example. People say it was just a different romanisation of his real name Malik. Uh-Uh. Malik is Arabic for king. And if they are going to constantly give different romanisations for names, can they please keep it constant: Ren-Len Malik-Marik Varon-Valon
It's even in yuugiouu cards. Buster launcher-Buster rancher Nosferatu Lich-Fushioh Richie
It's obvious the card was buster launcher. It has a gigantic rocket in the art. Don't even get me started on Richie. Are they going to change the English language so as kids can say names correctly. Come on kids, lets all go to scool(mispelling intented.Duh)

And if they are going to constantly give different romanisations for names, can they please keep it constant: Ren-Len Malik-Marik Varon-Valon We've gone over this >_< . "Consistancy" when romanising the "l" and "r" isn't an issue. It's situation specific! Theoretical example. A t.v show with two characters, one named "River" the other named "Luna". If we kept it "consistent" than one characters name would end up being inncorect. "Liver" or "Runa" .

*Cries* I've always wondered how then, nobody called Malik-Marik or called Varon-Valon before their dub names were found out. Mailk is because that is his official name. Before dub shaman king came out did anyone call Ren-Len. How come 4kids always makes the dub name the one the characters are not commonly called by? *Cries more*

You know...I agree with Lovely, I honestly can't see why people get all upset when ONE LETTER is changed in a name. Plus, it's correct. The Japanese tend to pronounce the "L" sound more often anyways....
As for name changes, I myself don't see how OHWceta prefers the dub names. 0_o But it's HIS opinion. If he wants to use them, let him use them. >< (resurie hates it when people can't respect others opinions) It's an opinion, not a fact. If someone thinks differently, it's not going to change what you think is it?
Back on topic, I for one prefer all the original names, obviously. Think of it this way: Usually those who have seen the original first prefer the original names, those who have seen the dub first tend to prefer the dub names. Simple as that. It's not the case with everyone, but with a few people, it is.
So IF (look! *IF*, I'm not directing or saying anyone is--) any of you are upset about OHWceta's like of the dub names, stop being stubborn! Not everyone is going to like the same things, if they did, this world would be boring as hell.
As for me, none of the name changes bother me. Only "Zeke", I could go off and say it's because I'm a Hao fangirl, and for all I know, that's probably the reason. But the name change itself, makes no sense. It's nothing near Hao, it doesn't suit Hao, it...just...it's not for Hao!! I understand why they changed it, I'm sure we all do, but 4kids could have done better. *obvious fangirl rantings*
resurie is done, yo! ><!

I do respect his opinion. I remember, years back when I was a dub Digimon fan and I knew nothing about the original and say I saw a site say Taichi I thought 'It's Tai!', or Izumi 'It's Izzy'. But now I know better I could never like a dub name better than the real name. Anyway, if any offense somehow came of my post to OHWceta, apologies.
Though, you all have to admit my point about the dub name always being the opposite name to the commonly called version a tad interesting, it's a conspiracy methinks...
