Usually those who have seen the original first prefer the original names, those who have seen the dub first tend to prefer the dub names. Simple as that. It's not the case with everyone, but with a few people, it is.

as far as dubbing, Names isn't as much of an issue as taking things out that could be possibly "offensive"

I say keep the guns, keep the blood, keep any cussing, and if you dont like it, stop watching it

Name changes are ok but I hate seeing a good anime series get turned into a kiddie show

And technically, in the US version it is both, as "Tai" is a nickname for Taichi Kamiya (Taichi Yagami in Japan) and "Izzy" is for Koushiro Izumi.

Well, Tammy is good cause it's the Shortened version of Tamao which I actually think is better than Tamara

I started by Reading Volume 1

Yoh, Anna, Manta, Len (it's funny, I kinda combine Ren and Lenny) other than Manta and Ren most of the names didn't change on the show, then I started watching the Show and more Characters were introduced , they were introduced by their Dub names XD so I had to get used to them and ended up liking them better

it's all Shonen Jump's fault for releasing the Mangas so late

It stated their japanese names at the beggining of season 1 then never mentioned them again. But it never did this for the other seasons ( I don't know about season 4 because it never came out in the UK). And can someone please explain buster rancher and fushion richie. And my point about 4kids always using the opposite romanisisation.

There is no season 4 of Shaman King. There are about 3 seasons (the second and third season aren't so clearcut) for a total of 64 episodes + 3 specials. The only japanese name that was mentioned was Horo Horo (if you could call that japanese, lol) I don't think Manta or Ren or Ryu was ever mentioned.

Once again for romanization of R's and L's, if Lovely wasn't clear enough, there is no "L" sound in Japanese, so they use "R" to compensate for it. Turns out that their "R's" sound more like "L's", but nonetheless, it doesn't really matter which way you romanize it, as long as you keep consistant, and don't call him Ren one episode and Len the next, cuz that's confusing. It's not only 4kids, even fansubbers don't always romanize the same way. e.g. FMA: Ryla/Lyra. If 4kids uses one way, and the rest of the world uses another, that's their thing, and i'd consider it the least of their faults.

If you're taking about the card names from Yuugiou, it's kinda because of Japanese pronounciation of "Engrish", as we call it, when they pronounce English words in their own language, thus making different pronounciation.

"Buster Rancher" was original "Buster Launcher", but because the Japanese were pronouncing "Launcher" in Engrish, as the Americans pronounce it, the "L" was pronounced as "R", and the "Aunch" was pronouced as "Arn", thus making "Basutaa Rancha", or "Buster Launcher".

For "Fushioh Richie", this derives from the "Lich" things, from something like Magic, or Dungeons and Dragons, or something... "Lich" comes out as "Richi" in Engrish, because just about all Japanese words need to end in a vowel.

Hana, I was talking about the 4th season of Digimon, not Shaman King. Anyway just because the Japanese pronounce it differently dosen't mean the English card name creators have to make a card that was obviously buster launcher into some random, irrelevant word and Richie just sound stupid for some Zombie God thing.

I usually prefer the original names...though I can never, ever, call the Pokemon characters by their original names. Don't ask me why. Satoshi will always be Ash Ketchum to me, Shigeru will always be Gary Oak, Kasumi will always be Misty, Takeshi will always be Brock. It's probably because I've been immersed in the dub waaaay before I knew there was an original. And I will refer to a character by their dub name if I don't know the original (as in the case of Medabots--does anyone know anything about the original show?)

But I just can't bring myself to call Hao...Ezekiel. I mean, Zeke. Ugh...the last time I heard someone who had that name, it was a dog!
