I am sorry if there's a topic like this, but I was to lazy to check. ^.^; Um, these are video games that every gamer should play or check out for either sheer goodness or sheer badness. I think every gamer should have played, as far as good goes: Pac-Man Sim City Super Mario Mario 64 (need I say more?) Final Fantasy I (started it all) Final Fantasy VII (helped make video games popular) Final Fantasy VIII (first game to sport truly good graphics) Sonic Adventure 2 (this is one of the few games that let's you play as the bad guy) Mortal Kombat (one of the first controversial video games) Mortal Kombat 2 Kingdom Hearts (for some reason this game opened up a new era, though of what I can't quite tell) Sonic the Hedgehog (revolutionized gameplay) A game that should be played for sheer badness is Castelian. Here's a link: www.disasterlabs.com/index.php?sec=cheese&che=castelianTruly awful, ne? Feel entirely free to add or subtract.

You should throw Katamari Damacy on that list.
It's fun, innovative, simple, very japanese, the music kicks ass and it's only $20!
I also heard that sequel is coming soon...
>sigh<.......such an awesome game.

Katamari looks like a bunch a fun. I saw it on Toonami, and I'd kill play it.
(Good) Additions:
Katamari Damacy (uniqueness)
Pokemon (how can you forget a game that started a world wide craze?)

I see that you put Final Fantasy I, VII, and VIII on there. My cousins think that of all the FFs that FFVI is the best.
I wouln't really know since I have only played I and VII but my cousins know there video games so I trust that VI is at least pretty good.

As far as final fantasy games go, the last one that I really enjoyed playing was ffVI. I mean, VII was fun, but I could never pick it up again after I played it once. One RPG that I think everyone should play just for the uniqueness value is a little game that game out stateside last year called Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. This is tecnically the third game in the series, but the first to come to the U.S. It earned a "M" rating because of the liberal use of heavy religious conotations. However, it is a very unique game that makes you think, totally throwing out the tried-and-true "save the world and get the girl" idea. I tried it last year and I will say that it was probably my favorite RPG of 2004. Even though it is not very mainstream, I urge every RPG fan to try this game. *whew* there. I'm done.

Monster Rancher series(all the games are good, MR2 is undoubtedly the best of the four console ones.) Civilization II and III(OK, this is more of a "games every simulation game lover should play" list ) Simcity 3000(very good if you ignore the cartoony graphics) Simcity 4(but only if you have a very fast computer!) Zoo Tycoon(and expansion packs. At least get the Dinosaur Digs pack.) Rollercoaster Tycoon(need I explain?) Jurassic Park:Operation Genesis(good if you like dinosaurs. Granted, some of them are inaccurate(the Diplhosaurus comes to mind; the real Diphlosaurs wouldn't spit venom, nor would they have that frill), but it's still a good game) Dragon Seeds(it's old and rarely heard of, so it might be hard to find. It's sort of like Monster Rancher, but not really. It's hard to explain, really.) Unreal Tournement(Story? Who needs story to blast virtual people to pieces?)

Oh Jeez, how could we forget about the Zelda games? They're just about as classic and fun Mario. (I think Ocarina of Time is the best)
Speaking of which, has anyone ever heard of or actually played the Zelda games on the CD-i which were said to be really, really, really, really crappy?

Don't forget Timesplitters 2, one of the best first-person shooters ever. Plus it has some of the most hilarious characters to ever feature in a game.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees! I'm a shaman in-training!

Amen to that! although I think some of the characters were more stupid than hilarious, and the monkeys kinda pissed me off.

Good picks.
I wasn't going to do this, but now I have to. Final Fantasy Tactics. I don't know where to begin; job classes and Orlandu. The job classes are excellent, the calculator, dancer, special classes, and mime are very powerful. The calculator even allows you to kill everyone (you and the enemy) in one shot. Dancers and mimes are multipurpose killing machines. Orlandu owns all powerful characters just for brute strength.
Go out and get FF Tactics. Good FF game.
ITA about Timesplitters and Zelda. I think Crazy Taxi and Supersmash Brothers should be on the list too. I am surprised no one said anything about Diablos. That's worthy of the list.

Oh, I love FF Tactics! There was so much betrayal for poor Ramza.
Any of the Sonic the Hedgehog games should not be missed. Well, you can skip Sonic Labyrinth.
Fire Emblem, that game will push you to your gaming limits. Then it will push you some more. You better be at the top of your game when playing because no mistake goes unpunished.
Banjo Kazooie. That game was my one of my favorite N64 games. Along with Paper Mario, Ocarina of Time, Diddy Kong Racing, and Conker's Bad Fur Day.
Animal Crossing is extremely fun. There are so many ways you can decorate your house.
Oh, play Harvest Moon: Back to Nature for the PSX. I didn't think it would be fun and my mom talked me into buying it. Once I played it it was all over. It was like a drug addiction I swear. Thank God it was summer because I neglected friends, family, TV, sleep, just about everything except food and showers.
Hmm, there are probably more, but I can't think of any important ones right now.

Odd... I seem to be confusing Banjo Kazooie with Crash Bandicoot.
Harvest Moon is a good pick. I'd like to pick Resident Evil.
