Where did the years go @_@ ??!!!
Technically, they've haven't aged at all. If they did, it wasn't by much. It was 4kids that boosted their ages like that. If you take note, even in one of the earlier episodes, Ren mentions that he's 15.

The other thing is Hao's apperance in the flashback. In the anime he looks as old as he does in the present. Which is (apparently 0_o ) 15 or so. Problem... Hao was only 7 or 8 when he killed Lyserg's parents @_@ . I should note that in the manga Hao looks his apropriate age in this scene. Maybe the animators were just lazy?

i dont think hao is human, therefore i dont think he "ages"... though i understand he was a baby once blah blah... but he isnt human IMO... *SPOILERS* Hao's human (well... he doesn't like to admit it, but...). He just get's reborn a lot. And he WAS shown as a child in this scene in the manga. You know, that story that was written by the guy who created the characters. Concerning Yohko's comment. O.k, sure the characters didn't age in the dub, but they apparently aged in the original. Concerning the Lyserg age reference thing (the original implies that Lyserg is 14 too). I just thought it was weird when I noticed today ^^. I've calmed down and I accept it now. heh. Oh yeah, I have one more comment about the dub episode. The editors are perverts man ^^; . Morphine's outfit might of matched her skin, but it still looked like an outfit. I'm not sure if the adding a darker pink was necessary.... I have some more thoughts about this episode in general but I'll throw that in the comparison ^_~ . Did any one notice that the animation was really fluid for this episode? Next weeks episode is a Ryu episode (a flashback actually) so Ryu fans can rejoice ^_^ !

I really thought that this was a good episode. Not having seen the original though, I have no basis for comparison.
I have been suprised throughout the series at what 4Kids has left in the show or even added themselves (Trey calling Yoh a jackass). At least they kept Lysergs fathers gun in his hand.
Anyone who has seen Yugioh when Bandit Kieth holds his hand up to Pegasus in season one threatening him with an invisible gun. It was totally pathetic.
I noticed a shot of two black piles (which I believe are Lysergs parents) around Zeke when they show a horizontal view of Lysergs flashback.
But anyway, I have to say that this was a very interesting episode and I can't wait until next week.

i didn't catch horo horo calling yoh a jackass. was that in an earlier episode or something? but yes that was a good ep, i wish they told you what to expect in the next episode so you'd be more hyped up for it.

TreyRacer yes that was the episode in the first round when Yoh and Trey faced off. The trash talk that was in the dub before their fight.
Zeke is off to see if Yoh has gained any power. This should be a very cool episode next week.

Being dead doesn't stop half the cast of Shaman King from showing up on a regular basis! ^_^
Yeah, not only that, it was different slightly...maybe it's the aging thing you're talking about with the characters but it feels like a different animation group picked up season two...was there any gap in Japan when season one and two were originally aired?

I thought Ellie, and Millie were killed when Yoh made his graceful exit from the Tunnel of Tartarus. They flew through the air, smacked their head on a rock, and were floating face down in the water. Many signs pointed to their death IMO.

Was there any gap in Japan when season one and two were originally aired? Not that I know of, but I don't think so. However, long anime series are known for putting in a bigger budget in "special" episodes. (The animation company for Shaman King is Xebec by the by.) Another episode that I noticed had better animation than usual was the episode that had the final fight between Yoh's group and Ren's dad (and the prolouge of that fight).

was there any gap in Japan when season one and two were originally aired? According to Anime News Network, SK ran from 7/4/01 to 9/25/02, which is 65 weeks. Which means that at least one week didn't have an episode, for some reason or another (maybe where one of the specials was played?).

i dont think the characters actually aged... ...i just believe the animation got better...remember all the calendars 4kids censored? when yoh fought horo horo it was october..right? if so then yoh and the other should have been in america in december and january right? yohs birthday is in may...so...i doubt he aged... ren probably did since his birthday is in january.. i bet everyone is confused right now...^^''...im not good at explaining things...and for all i know this explanation could be wrong...^^'' i do admit i have noticed the animation get better...somewhat different...if you look at a picture of yoh from ep 1 and compare it with one from ep. 50 or around there...they look different...one thing i noticed is that their hair is more detailed...

....
O.k. Let me repeat myself. I'm refering to the original episode NOT the dub >_< !!!
*cough* sorry. I just feel like nobody is listening to me ;_; .... *feels unloved*
Now, to review: (and I'm refering to THE ORIGINAL anime here.)
Somewhere... in the begining episodes, Yoh is refered or implied to be 13 years old. Most of the characters are either a little younger (Tamao), about the same age (Ren, Manta, Horohoro) or a little older (Ryu-who's only about 17 at the start) as Yoh. Lyserg, when he is introduced, is understood to be a little bit younger or about the same age as Yoh (in the manga I believe he is a year or so younger). Now, the ORIGINAL anime implies that Lyserg is 14. That would make Yoh 14 or 15 years old. Meaning, he's aged, just a bit at least.
It's a little easier folllowing the progression of the characters ages in the manga because the manga had time flow "in real time" when it was going on in Japan.
Maybe this is why the dub made the characters a bit older at the start of the series. Just to kill eventual confusion or somethin' @_@ .
