The questions that will never be answered:
What gender is Goldva?
AND
Why is Ryu dead?
About the "deadline" to reach Patch Village: didn't they have two months in the original and one month in the dub? So 4kids would have to stick to that and make the characters barely arrive on time, since they received less time to get to Patch Village than in the original, yet they still took the same amount of time on their journey.
I am really hoping they won't harm the Ren episode that much.
I have the Team the Ren cuddle screencap as my background! Yay for RenHoro moments! Get your mitts off Ren, Chocolove!

-PATCH VILLAGE! HURRAH! -I could see what the purpose of Creepy voice Thing telling Yoh to turn back and leave his friends was, well before it was actually stated in the ep. -Snuggly goodness! I was surprised that Ren of all people partook in that(aside from Faust, Yoh, and Ryu)! -Silva wonders why Hao was let into Patch Village. I wonder that, too. ^_^"

Lovely- I've got the episode on tape, so I should be able to grab the new sign for you... with my oh-so-wonderful "look at the lines over the picture because it's a photo taken of the screen with a digital camera" screencaptures...

*watches episode 45 again*
Okay, time for an episode recap. ^_^
First off, I’d like to say that I think this episode turned out pretty good, minus some little strange spots. Now on with the review!
During the point where Morty is narrating at the beginning of the show and the scene shows the Dobi officials watching Yoh on their big screen TV, you can see Nichrome’s back. Also about half of his front is shown when the scene shifts to the Dobi official’s fronts. He’s the little guy on the far left in the back shot. I noticed him about the second time I watched the episode. ^_^
All the boys bickering about the Black Dust and Anna getting all mad and serious at them was enjoyable. Although Anna’s always mad and serious isn’t she? Hm…
The spirits feeling the Black Dust and the Great Spirits was interesting and mysterious. Also, Rio saying -“It is always a good sign when our spirits talk big and vague.” made me smile.
They swim, and they swim, and they swim, before drowning. *laughs* However, before they drown, Trey’s getting all ticked off, Joco starts to lose his air, and Yoh? He just floats there with his arms crossed, thinking. ^_^
Poor Yoh, almost drowning has caused him to cry for his life and glomp a necromancer.
“You want to settle this right now pointy head?!” – Uh… Trey, I wouldn’t say anything if I where you. Also, Len likes to think a lot of things are illusions for Trey’s uncomfort doesn’t he? *sweatdrops*
The voices of the Great Spirits were… off, to say the least. I mean if the VAs just spoke normally and didn’t all try to be all deep and mysterious, then THE voice would of worked better. However, with the way they had it, and the fact that they all spoke at different times... *shakes head sadly* it just wasn’t right. I just think they tried to hard, you know?
Lovely is right, watching Yoh become all upset, worried, and terrified is very hard to watch. Especially when he woke up in Dobi village and his breathing was so quick and frightened, even when he was awake. It just shows how afraid he is to be alone. Although the special effects when he hit the barrier was interesting.
Dobi village is a tourist trap. ^_^
I’m glad 4kids left in the Chinese food and the chop sticks, although whatever those little red things on the side of the plate where, I don’t think Yoh likes them that much.
Joco - “I bet my right eyeball that there isn’t a single weak shaman here.” Screen jumps over to the Lillies getting their picture taken. Joco - “Scratch that!” – That was pretty funny. ^_^
Hao giving some useful information without attacking/ be attacked by anyone was good, although when the X-laws showed up that almost changed pretty quickly.
Rio and Faust got in awful close to Yoh didn’t they? *sweatdrops* I mean I understand that they really look up to him and care about him but wow, that was close. If Hao saw that he would either remark on how Yoh takes after him, laugh his head off, or get jealous. *smiles evilly*
Oh, and Korey’s chirp did sound like “Magickarp”. *sighs* 4kids is trying to start a Pokemon and Shaman King dubbed crossover!
Okay that’s it for now. See you later.

Regarding Goldva's Gender (Lovely, maybe you should look at this) I believe that in both versions that Goldva is a he for a couple of reasons: -From what I've observed in most anime are that the not-so-wise elderly men tend to sometimes have a feminine-like voice (Hence, possibly why the spanish dubbers decided to do that). The female elderly-man-like voice tends to sound raspier and sometimes crazier, depending on the series and the character. - Women in most North American tribes are not allowed to become chiefs. I'm putting all my 11yrs down on this one because I recall, while we did Native American/First Nation studies that women never had or were allowed a high-power role like a leader, chief in this case, of their tribe. And since Hiroyuki has focused on Native American culture in this series (Great Spirit=God to the Native Americans. Hence, the name change from Great Spirit to King of Spirits), I think it would be safe to assume that he followed the rules of today's tribes like the Sarcee, Cree, Blood, Blackfoot et al. have been following since...forever which is why I think Goldva in both versions is a guy. (Even though, I know, the "Patch" tribe does not exist for real, I don't think Hiroyuki would create a new fictional tribe that followed all the rules laid down {Or, told to them by the Great Spirit} except for the tradition that women don't assume the role of a chief though a chief's daughter may be respected by his tribe, the daughter doesn't become the chief after the previous one dies/retires/is ousted) Hm. *hopes that made sense* Okay, to the episode (I'm having internet troubles at home so where for some reason or another, I can't post messages or send emails, so I can only post from school.) This episode=hilarity with subtitles and missing speeches crammed into one 30min episode. The underwater-with-subtitles scene was absolutely hilarious...I was especially doubled over when the dead corspe floated in front of Ren and he and everyone freaked (And he and Ryu uh "died" so to speak. I was like pointing to the corner of the screen because Ryu and Ren looked dead XD) The wierdest part of this episode: *points to scene where Ryu and Faust are "cuddling" Yoh as they declared who's team they were on* ...I rest my case ; EDIT Forgot to add, Ryu's little random out of the blue blurb...That made me laugh too X3; ("I have a pebble in my shoe..."...that, my friends, deserves an award for the most random statement/thought)

The female elderly-man-like voice tends to sound raspier and sometimes crazier, depending on the series and the character. Could be. But in spanish, not only did Goldva has a feminine voice, but the tribe called him/her "Senora Goldva" (There's supposed to be a ~ over the "N" but I can't do it with an english keyboard.) "Senora" is the feminine way to say "Miss" or "Master" blah blah. If s/he was a man in spanish, they would have called him/her "Senor", which is the masculine version. They call Hao "Senor Hao" by the way. I don't know, I'm just saying since you mentioned the spanish version. I don't know how you can tell in Japanese, since there's no feminine/masculine version of "-sama" which I'm assuming they called Goldva. Or did they just leave the suffix for Goldva's name?

A couple things about your comparison Lovely....
In the "serious" scene where the characters are thinking dramatic thoughts about the fact that they have to fight each other someday, Rio's dramatic thought is "there is a pebble in my shoe..." Originally his thought was that he will , "...follow master Yoh no matter where he goes."
You typed "though" without the "t". I tried to bolden it, but it's hard to see. And also:
Is "SHIELD YOUR EYES!!!" supposed to be a link to a pic? If so, it's not there.
That's all. Great Compairson once again.
