I personally like Ren's voice itself. I think it would work better on a different character, though.. it's a very cute voice but it doesn't fit Ren.
And I think Lyserg would sound really cute with an accent! My friend and I think that Ren and Lyserg's voice actors should have switched.. If Lyserg had Ren's voice, only a little lighter/cuter, and Ren had Lyserg's voice, only deeper and less scratchy, it would have worked perfectly.

I like Ren's dub voice. I didn't at first, but i got used to it and now i quite like it. It makes some of the things he says, sound more amusing. At least it does to me. ^^;;

I think Ren's English voice sounds like someone escaping from a millenia in Hell. a.k.a, Britain. Boooooooooo. I hate English accents. Not English people, mind you, but they sound so weird! Even Canadians, scary as they are, sound somewhat normal and here at Earth. Freaky scary British people.

I also wonder why almost every Chinese character was made British in the dub.... It's an adaptation issue. If the dub implication is that the show is set in the US, England is a decent stand-in for China. The audience gets a better sense of the cultural differences going on. That said, I sincerely regret ever playing with the language buttons on my DVDs... Those poor Tao kids....

I prefer all of the dub voices over the subs in most cases, especially Ren..... I look to the dub for comic relief 99% of the time, and the voices that they give the characters really back that up.
Yeah, I was also thinking about the cultural 'stand-in' that Brittish accents play for the Chinese instead. If the show is set in America as the dub leads you to believe, then Ren and Jun having accents that sound Brittish would imply that they were from a different(yet similar country of origin), much like China is for Japan. Makes sense to me.

Makes sense to me. I get your point about them having different accents to the others - it's just that the accents are so bad. Ren sounds as if he's supposed to be upper class English, but it kind of wavers and he makes basic grammatical errors (who instead of whom etc). Lyserg who's supposed to be English has an American accent and Sharona - is she supposed to be French, or just pretending to be, or just throwing in random French phrases in an attempt to impress? I guess it just depends where you're from as to how you think characters sound.

In Sharona's case, I think it's just her trying to impress people. I find it pretty hilarious, because that's actually very much in her character to be that way.

Well, I personaly am NOT from Brittian, but have some Brittish ansestors (As well as almost EVERY European country ) and I really don't mind his accent. I mean, it gets annoying, but if they got rid of his accent then they would have to get rid of Jun's. I like Jun with a Brittish accent! She has the hot Asian body, and the hot English voice, too! .... Ok, I'm sorry if I offended any Asain or Brittish girls in here with that statement, and shall paddle myself right now OWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!! I am in pain...

Kinda old thread. ::shot:: x.x But I asked my friend in England about how she felt about the accent thing. So, meh... >> FuruChan says: Can I ask you somethin'~? Oooh oooh I'm British! At the back!
Personally I don't really care, as long as they don't get stupid. Was dub Varon in Yu-Gi-Oh Australian or British? Ren sounds...pretty odd but you don't really hear many people with an accent that strong in Britain anyway.
It was that episode of Family Guy that took it too far 'One if by Clam, Two if by Sea'. But I love family Guy too much to care.

well...I'm welsh and I don't sound welsh, only when i actually speak welsh...so because Irish, welsh, english and scottish people happen to have this stereotyped idea that they all have these thick accents it depends were you lived, or how your parents talk.
Len's accent is trying to get you to notice it's an English accent. Or over-enfisize the fact that he might be very rich or posh or snobbish. the idea is that he's this posh english guy who would complain about the obscene Horohoro/Trey.
