I thought that Digimon was created first in Japan and Pokemon copied Digimon but Pokemon went to America first and thats why the idea of digimon copied Pokemon started. But I am not very sure. The Digimon handheld games were released first in Japan but production on the Pokemon video games began first, so while it was officially released after Digimon, the actual idea of Pokemon started first. And the Pokemon anime came out in Japan before the Digimon anime did. I'm not sure about the manga versions, though.

i think maybe the people compared sk to pokemon because they both have the thing were the main character is on a quest of some kind. but other than that...i mean, unless they change sk into "Oh my god!let's go collect guardian ghosts!" i see no other resemblance

i had a friend that thought SK was a lot like pokemon too. i can't see the comparison between the two. well maybe except for the "spirit form! unity!" thing and the fact that they have partners that help them fight.

The issue isn't so much about "ripoffs" as it is about the shonen genre. Genki hero with powerful, often dark misunderstood ghost/monster/etc partner. The dream! Friendship wins fights! Shonen very often works around variations on this theme. I really like how dreams and friendship collide in mankin, though. Too often there's the covenience of parallel goals rather than rivalling ones.

Well, that's got more to do with Pokemon's roots. Pokemon was a video game first, then a shonen-type series.
