When Shaman King first started airing on TV, I was actually kind of exicited about it because for once there would be a non-monster taming anime airing on Saturday mornings. Until Shaman King came along, practically the only anime you would see on Saturdays would be shows like Pokemon and Yugioh, and the wannabe "otaku" fans would complain about how those weren't "real" anime, so finally a "real" anime like Shaman King was going to be aired on Saturday mornings, and what happens? People started calling Shaman King a Pokemon rip-off without even backing up their claims. >< I remember at one point there was even this girl who saw only ten minutes of the first episode of the Shaman King dub, and she could already tell it was going to be like Pokemon or Yugioh, so she just turned off her TV without even giving it a chance.
It's only ten minutes into the first episode and they haven't even gotten started doing anything yet, so how could she tell it was going to be like Pokemon or Yugioh?! Argh! And these people should know by now that they shouldn't judge an anime by its dub. *coughCardcraptorscough* But I tried to get it through their thick heads that Shaman King isn't a Pokemon rip-off, and that girl got all upset and threatened to leave the board all because I was trying to prove her wrong about Shaman King. >< That was a long time ago, but I still fail to see any resemblence between Pokemon and Shaman King, so why do some people think that Shaman King is a Pokemon rip-off? If anything, I think Shaman King is more similar to tournament fighting anime like Dragonball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho, so why do they think that?

I know, Shaman King and pokemon are totally different, plot wise and mechanics wise....although I'm not entirly sure what I mena by mechanics wise. Infact I don't think Mankin is a rip-off of any anime...but then again I havn't watched much anime.

Pokemon is crap. Shaman King is something new, original, and brilliant.
And I like YGO. It's not so much about the game anymore after Duelist Kingdom...

Technically when Pokemon first came out, it was pretty original itself...
Oh, and yeah. Shaman King is a "fighting anime", Pokemon is a "collecting anime." So yeah, the whole comparsion of the two shows is just silly. (As a side note, I remember when Takato first encounted the "Shaman King is pokemon" people. Back in the day~ .)

I think the GBA games 'soaring hawk' and 'sprinting wolf' are the Pokemon rip-offs. Other than that, Shaman King is definetly it's own thing.

I like both(Pokemon is much better now that Ash-tachi are out of Johto), and they're nothing alike. Well, there was the whole "version" thing in the games but Zelda did that too...(with the Oracle of Seasons and the Oracle of...time? I think...) (Be glad that you didn't start the old "Digimon is like Pokemon" argument, or else this post would've been HUGE. )

Digimon is NOTHING LIKE POKEMON!!! >_<
.....excuse me.. sorry!! ^_^;
Umm I really like the direction pokemon has taken recently. the humore in the past month has been great. Just like yesterdays episode with the battle of the sexes.
Ash and James vs. May and Jesse? WTF?! It was great!!
I never compared Shaman King to Pokemon. They looked way too different even from the minitrailers they showed of SK before it premiered I was like. This looks different. I'll have to check it out! I'm glad I did!

Just to say the Shaman King Games of Soaring Hawk and Sprinting Wolf is almost a waste of time. I love the show but this game became really right in the beginnning...the first part the dialougge took like an hour and it was like forever until real fighting happened! oh those mortuary tombstones are a waste of time when you automatically catch ghosts that start battles like pokemon trainers... pokemon was fun cuz you actually traveled and not leave the game to bring you to places.(Shaman King a map comes up and you click where you wanna go...)
Though the anime are just to different when it comes to everything. The only thing that i can say is simliar is the fact they re both originally from Japan...actually there are a few simlarities but they're just too general. Pokemon is just a tournament when it comes to an end of a region(i.e. Indigo, Johto, and Hoenn) Shaman King is also a tournament but well like everyone said so far, the whole series is a big tournament
(They actually took out episodes in pokemon, one episode because James wore a bikini, and the other episode was the when where ash tries to save a Dratini {it had a lot odf gun shooting})

o__O Um...no. They aren't alike..at all...Shaman King isn't very repetitive like Pokemon, and it doesn't bore you easily...and the characters are much better! The only similarities i see which technically really aren't, are the fact their both using something to fight. Pokemon usues pokemon and SK uses ghosts/spirits. But, the difference is...SK is way more interesting the way they fight and they themselves actually fight, they dont make some animal or card(Yugioh^^ or anything do their work for them. Yeah theyre joined with the spirit but you get what i mean. Yeah, um, thats about it.

Mankin = Pkmn rip-off?? How offending. Like that one thread I found waaaaaay long ago that had a link to this guy's editorial about how Mankin was a YGO rip-off (that one made me mad, whooo-whee!)

I used to love Pokemon.
Now, it's just an embarrasment IMO.
They should have quit the show FOREVER after the final episode of the Kanto (Indigo) League. It's gone from being a genuinely good show, into one that doesn't know when to quit.
I stuck with the series until around halfway through Johto, when I knew the show was beyond saving. I gave it another chance at the start of both Hoenn series, but they quickly screwed up any chances they had of making a fresh start. I 'half-watch' it now, as in, I catch what I can be bothered to, but most of the eps suck.
(ruffles hair) If I see one more ep which ends with them walking into a sunset waving I'm gonna FREAK!
I respect Shaman King in that it knows when to quit. If they haven't planned the end of an anime before it starts airing, you know you're in trouble.
I think, once an anime exceeds 160 episodes, it can only go downhill. These are shows that don't know when to quit.
Dragonball Z, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh... these are all shows I loved at one point. Why did I stop loving them? Because, no matter how good a show is, the writers WILL run out of ideas. Then the said show becomes repetitive, cliched, and ultimately unwatchable.
Kudos to Shaman King for 'knowing when to quit'.
*prays that Sonic X never exceeds three 52-episode series'*
