TOf course, we would'nt have to worry about uncut releases in the first place if 4f**kin-Kids actually focused on shows that WERE FOR KIDS, fitting the 6-11 demographic. Which is technically NOTHING in the Shonen Jump line as its main focus is a 13+ demographic (based on the magazine). But apparently their logic is as follows:lucrativeness > actual appropriateness Well, there is a gap between what is considered appropriate for young children between Japan and the US. You need look no further than Pokemon. Ok, that has to be a 6-11 show, even in Japan. And that has had a number of content edits and undubbed episodes here. Likewise, I've noticed SJ Jump-based anime tends to be toned down in places. They never showed Luffy scarring himself or Zoro cutting open a wound during the circus battle, for example. I think overall, the Japanese market recognizes that kids do like irreverent, naughty things and allows some leeway. I don't think the SJ-based anime veer so differently in their target audience but in their cultural tolerance level. That, and there is recognition of older viewers in Japan. Think about Tokyo Mew Mew for a second. Has any Western-based girls show been so transparent in using what basically amounts to fetishes? (schoolgirl uniform, catgirls, maid outfits, etc.) American culture is more cautious about what kids can see, and companies get paranoid. In just under 10 years, several episodes from Disney's Gargoyles had to be reeditted for tv broadcast. Out of this overcaution, things are being avoided rather than addressed. The effects of violence don't exist, cigarettes don't exist... Actually, that reminds me. Apparently they couldn't show the Cromartie High School cast actually smoking, but cigarettes in their mouths were ok. (I think it has to do with them being high school students) Anyway, 4Kids picks up shows that veer towards kids in Japan. So they market them that way... and end up editting because overprotectiveness is the local standard. It's not the possibility of uncuts that excited 4Kids with One Piece... it was its 7-11 promos and themed store in Japan.

I rather want to get the Chinese version of Shaman King DVD's, since they have Japanese with English subtitles. I've been waiting for the next volumes of the DVD's, but it was really delay. What's up with them anyway? Oh well, Chinese version rocks more than the legimate domestic DVD's, cuz they have many episodes on each disc.

I read an article on it not too long ago... Apparently some bootlegs actually are made in legitimate DVD factories after hours. But 4Kids is stupid to ignore the future of alternate versions of content which is emerging. You may know them as Director's Cuts, Extended Editions, Uncuts, Subtitled, Shonen Ai free Alexander, the Passion with less blood, etc. And it will keep on going. I wouldn't be surprised if one day you can get versions of movies with love triangles resolved differently, for example.

Sorry to bump this, but I was looking around IGN and saw that they list release dates for Shaman King DVDs Vol 4 and 5. (near the bottom, in the tble) dvd.ign.com/articles/670/670521p1.htmlThough, as much as I trust IGN, I wouldn't put too much faith in this. I mean, where is Vol 3 anyway?

Could be a mistake, but if DVDs just so happen to come out then, I can say that I will be really, really suprised.
(Assuming there still uncut and bilingual!)

Hate to break it, but those are wrong. Those are the same listings on Anime on DVD, who, out of the blue, listed volumes 4 and 5 as coming out on December 12th.
The thing is, December 12th is the default day for unknown releases, however, usually people use 2012 for the year. I guess AoD just slipped up.

Sigh. Why does One Piece have merchandise (creepy talking 'Loofy' doll [calling it that cuz it's a dub], T-Shirts,) while Shaman King still gets diddly? Do they realize how much fans (me) would love some Faust VIII merchandise? A Faust action figure has been on my birthday and Christmas list for how many years now? sigh... Any body know where I can get one? I would buy the uncut, or even the cut, DVDs. I'd get every one featuring Faust-or heck, Ren too, just for the British- and... that would be every DVD, hunh? I wish that they would get better subs, the cut rather than uncut dub on the disk (I missed a lot of the first season of the dub, and want to see how they handled some things, and see things like tiddlywinks and 'Trey''s donkey comment that people keep talking about), and... maybe some bonus features would be nice, but that's asking way too much, isn't it... Someone needs to release the Specials. I saw some SK at a China Town store rescently, whole series I think, and went nuts right there because it was so weird to see that in America. If I had more money on me... I got a Japanese One Piece movie there instead. ^_^ Did anybody else notice that on the spine of DVD 2, rather than "Perfect Possession" it says "Perect Possession"?
