So, I have been waiting for my SJ to come this month (I get it in the mail) and I was getting progressively more upset because it seemed to be coming late. But that was made even worse by the fact that in the preceding issue, it was promised that FAUST VIII would be in this one. YAAAY! I was having a bad afternoon (made better by listening to some Shaman King Japanese music) and I opened my mail box. Lo! Twas a Shonen Jump inside! And also a yellow jacket. But I ignored the bee and reached inside for the SJ and the other mail. 'Crud,' I thought to myself, 'this day will be made yet more horrible by the Shonen Jump, which seems to be getting progressively thinner.' Note that it is also getting more expencive, and more brutally eddited. None-the-less, I went inside and opened the plastic bag. Flipping to the Shaman King, I let out a squeal of glee. FAUST!!!! The first thing I saw was Faust VIII. And it actually kept getting... better! (if you can get any better than the Faust, in my opinion, I mean. I respect fans of other characters.) I read through it and it was... acurate!!!!!!!! Ren Fans- let it be known that no longer are Ren's horses being referred to by the dub names- Black Peach and White Pheonix. They are now being reffered to as Hei-Tao and Bai-Feng, respectively. Also, I don't know if this is permanent, but in a pull-out in the SJ, its price was lowered back down to its original! Big words were used! There were four pages featuing Faust! And, I think the thinness may be because different paper is being used? I'm not sure. I think that the ink might be different as well. Sorry if this has been rambling.

Hmmm, maybe I'll check it out, then. I haven't bought an American SJ in a few months now....
As for the paper, that is right-- I've noticed that the paper is of different thickness. Same amount of manga, thinner appearance. Personally, I prefer the type of paper they used during their early run, way back in the first five or so issues.....X3. They switched to a rougher brand for a long time. Up until recently, that is.

Heh, Papaya read the mankin part of the new SJ the other day, not me. I'm lazy and am trying to wait for the gns. ^^; I don't think she noticed though, and if she did she didn't say anything. Really, that's great and all, but...to just randomly change it outof the blue... ; SJ...most will notice.. Reminds me of the Zoro/Zolo thing. o.o;; >> << Ren has a stuffed tiger >3 <3

I'm not sure if THOSE specific names were used in the dub ^^;. But either way, I really don't mind when ANIMALS have their names literally translated. It actually makes more sense for their names to be translated .

It's the principal of the matter, I guess. I mean, early on it was so un-dubbed, they even had Ren and Jun calling Bason 'Mason' with an explination. However... *sweat-drop* I continued to read the other manga in the issue later, and in One Piece, a boy yells "That man destroyed my dad!" and in YuyuHashuko, they seemed to say everything they could to avoid saying 'kill' at certain parts. Then again, that may be how it's supposed to be, or I may have missed something. Shaman King atleast seems to be getting a bit of a break.

Yeah, I did notice they use a different kind of paper to do the color. Not sure how I like it yet, but it's not worth any fuss, I think.
I did also notice how they seemed to be avoiding the word "kill." *suspicions*
A couple of quick questions:
1) That is Hao in that one scene, right? He looks so...Yoh-like...
2) Did they edit Kanna's top? I thought she always wore a tube-top, but in SJ she was in a relatively modest sleeveless.

I flipped through this issue of Jump while in the bookstore today . I need to hurry up and buy the orignal JPN books already... 1) That is Hao in that one scene, right? He looks so...Yoh-like... Yep, I'm pretty sure that's Hao. His design has changed a lot huh ?

I'm assuming we're refering to the end of Volume 7, right?
Pulling open my copy, no, Kanna is not wearing a tube top. It's a short-shirt, the same style as Elly (I think) from the Lily 5 in the anime. Note that in the image back in Volume 2 at the start of Chapter 15, she is wearing a tube top. Another inconsistancy between the images is the addition (in the manga chapter) of seemingly a gun holster, as opposed to the Volume 2 image (although it could just be in a different position).
Mari's outfit is also slightly altered, as in the image she doesn't have a choker, yet in the manga chapter she does.
((All hail the fact that volumes 2, 6, and 7 are the books I have of SK...))

^-^ YES! XD I'm very happy about this, as Usagi-chan already knows... After Ren's.... er... lack of a crack... I was rather worried... I mean, for crying out loud... It's human anatomy... Although... in a way I was grateful for the Ponchi edits... I didn't want them, because it's not what Hiroyuki intended... but man... no one should be forced to look at that.

Huh. I think that they need a certain amount of editing to keep it "T" rated, and they seem to change what they edit each issue. That prob'ly explains the 'kill' stuff.

Sounds like it's slowly getting better, except for the fact the pointless changes in the One Piece manga.
Slightly off topic, but I don't get why they dance around the words kill, death etc. when other childrens media like the Harry Potter books aren't afraid to use them.

Neither was Smurfs and it was G rated. course Smurfs was "OMG LUKIE SMURF YOU COULD DIE AND WE WOULD ALL BE SMURFY" Least that's how I think of it...

Well I haven't read OP past the sixth book but they've apparently replaced "Devil" with "Demon", changed Zoro into Zolo, removed all swearing bar c**p and according to ShiroiUsagi replaced "kill" with "destroyed".
