If it was a willy, I could actually understand the decision to edit - but buttocks are seen in American cartoons all the time. I don't see why this has to be so hypocritical... Maybe VIZ decided that Lyserg looked more realistic than the cartoon characters seen on TV or something...

The reason why VIZ edits in the first place is because VIZ fears losing its target audience if parents are unwilling to allow their children to read the books.

In Europe, nudity is not as taboo as it is in the United States (In fact in the French MTV one can see topless girls). That's why the French (and other European versions) version has no nudie edits.

What's so funny is that I completely overlooked this scene when reading through SJ the first time. I only found it because I saw Lovely's post and then combed through the book to find something to tell her. Then I was like "OH, THAT'S WHAT SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT!" when I saw it. For a moment I thought it was unedited until I realized that the underwear wasn't drawn that well....
