In this case Chloe would have been better... least that's prettier and dosen't sound winx-club-ish. and Lysegr's butt sene was AWESOME I was planning to take an issue with that to school and flag it in a friend of mine's face ;_;... and now I cant. ... W.T.C. is Lys showing him? his Bugs bunny undies? they could've at LEAST drawn boxers ... or explained the pants dropping... I mean if they wanted to make a convincing edit Horo could have de pants'd Lys.

I kinda like Morphea....At least it begins with the same letter as her real name. Finding middle ground is always important.
And we could make theorys untile were old and gray but the real answer may never be known.
I was kinda excited about it XD but then the bad underwear...
I half wanted to use white-out and draw good underwear on the poor kid...

I lost a bet because of this... I'd bet that they were going to give him badly drawn Union Jack (British flag, for those of you who didn't know) boxers. Hopefully the friend I made the bet with won't remember that I now owe her $5....

Ergh. I have the issue in my possession... they f**ked the dialogue up HARD. Lyserg's explanation of dowsing has been changed, Ryu's line regarding divination spirits was changed from "She's beautiful! Compared to the ones we have, we've lost!" to "What a fancy-looking spirit... kinda on the dinky side, though," and Lyserg was made to sound like the Upper-class Twit of the Year.
How do you go from "I'm also smarter than you... and I've got the money to travel, so that's no problem. Why don't we join forces? Besides, isn't one stronger in a group?" to "Unlike you, I'm both smart and stylish. I'm also rich and strong. [WHAT THE f**k?! HIS GODDAMNED CATCHPHRASE IS "I'M WEAK!!!" ARE THEY GOING TO CUT THAT?] I'm suggesting that we help each other. You'd be wise to let me join you."
Congratulations, Viz. You've successfully raped my favorite character up the ass with a baseball bat. In the original, he was someone I could identify with. Your translation's version is an utter berke, to use a Britishism you'll no doubt throw into his speech pattern! I've never felt quite so bitter about a change in a character's speech pattern as I do about this. The real Lyserg Diethel is polite, not a brat!
Ergh. Maybe I'm just depressed over what happened to my favorite character in volume three of Runaways, which I just finished reading... but that does not change that what Viz has done is unforgiveable. Unforgiveable! Unforgiveable!!! UNFORGIVEABLE!!! UNFORGIVEABLE!!! UNFORGIVEABLE!!!

Really? They did that badly with the translations of the chapter itself?!? In that case... I WANT TO GO BACK TO FRANCE AND GET THE FRENCH VERSIONS OF ALL THE REST OF THE VOLUMES!!! That way I wouldn't have to deal with Viz's crappy translating job... plus there's Morphin instead of Morphea there... *pouts* Maybe I can convince my parents to order the french ones over Ebay for my birthday in September or something...

Yes. They made everyone so... obnoxious. I can understand trying to make them act more like the American norm for young teenage guys, but there's a line between that and screwing up everyone's dialogue!
And changing Ryu's dialogue so that he seemed derisive of his "kawaiiko-chan?" (How the hell are they going to handle that conversation in ch. 179 where he calls Lyserg that? According to the translation I got, it's something idiomatically equivalent to "cutie-pie!") Cheap attempt at fending off homophobic soccer moms, if you ask me.

You know, this could all be prevented if all of the soccer moms who don't pay attention to their kids but are horrified when they see the "terrors" of what their kids are watching would just either shut the freaking heck up or... well, shut the freaking heck up. This is America we're talking about. The first ammendment to the constitution is Freedom of Speech. This means that people are allowed to put down what they want and no one can sue them for something inappropriate. (At least, this is my take on it.) The publishers shouldn't be covering up something that someone else was trying to get across just to quell the baka soccer moms. And frankly, I see much worse from some of the "music" that children listen to these days. For example, apart from all of the rap (not even music by my definition, but I won't go there) that has so many themes of violence and swearing, there's this one popular spanish "song" on the radio that repeats the word "gasoliina" a lot and apparently has an english meaning that is rated R... and yet the soccer moms don't complain about that...

*sigh* Looks like I have to play devil's advocate again. Calm down people. I was able to flip through the issue in question at the bookstore the other day. And while I stil thought the visual edit was silly, I actually LIKED the translation. I thought the random british phrases from Lyserg were kind of cute simply because... well, Lyserg IS from england, and he does show up kind of randomly, so it seemed oddly fitting. Ok, first off, Lyserg IS an "obnoxious twit" when the group first meets him. That's one of the reasons people who dislike Lys dislike him (the other reason being the angst. heh.) Yes, Lyserg ACTS polite. But sometimes, he's just saying slightly mean things in a nice and polite manner. Maybe in the original Lyserg didn't say he was strong in that particular frame, however, in the next panel or so, Lyserg asks Morphine "who's the strongest here?" And Morphine points to Lyserg (causing HoroHoro to accuse Lys of faking the dousing there .) So in context, it made sense, and I can see why the translator/adapter wrote the scene that way. So, Lyserg wasn't really showing off previously, he was just stating what he thought of as fact. Sure, Lys normally says he's weak, but it can't be denied that at that moment he believed he was the strongest out of Yoh's group.Besides that, even in the original, Lyserg's dialoug in that scene still sounds a bit arrogant. Remember, in the Japanese language, showing off even a little comes off as a bit rude. (exp- "Your child is very smart!" "Oh no, he's actually very stupid." SERIOUSLY, this is how one is supposed to say things when you get a compliment *laughs*)

I think everyone should be more concerned how Viz'll handle Ryu imagining Jeanne's key hole (on the chastity belt >>;; ) rather than the "kawaiiko-chan" thing in that chapter. 8|
