*sigh*......I nearly died when I saw the name change......but...........if they did this to Zoro, then why not to Ren?.....It's the same mistake.......I'm just wondering why they're beginning to make as little sense as 4kids......- -U

Also, "Why not Manta, why not so and so, why not?" - Which makes me believe that the name change was more likely a legal reason.

Nope, low chance it's a legal issue. The name that would have a chance of legal problems would be "Zorro" with two "r's" even then you can technically use the name in a story just not as a title. (As long as the character with the name is different enough.) I got this info from the thread on AoD that I posted earlier by the by.

Either way, I wrote a letter to Shogakukan, and now I'm gonna write a letter to Viz regarding One Piece and Case Closed: Detective Conan. Granted, I like Viz a whole lot better than 4Kids, but I don't want to see them tie in with the anime in the WRONG ways.

and here i thought that they kept the names the same in mangas. Though they are more likely to, not always... I've got several examples: * TokyoPop: Digimon, Initial D, Sailor Moon * Viz: Beyblade (duh), Battle Angel Alita (GUNNM in the original Japanese - An anime series in Japan later pokes fun of that name change), Case Closed: Detective Conan (TMS wanted 'em to do that), Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac, MegaMan NT Warrior (duh), Pokemon (duh), Ultimate Muscle

......*sigh*.......and I used to like viz so much......eh, speaking of which, anyone seen their Kinnikuman Nisei? All dub names.........- -U No, Ultimate Muscle has some Japanese names but mostly dub names (Japanese names are filled in when specific were absent from the dub) - Not that I give a care about that series. Viz has been changing names in manga ever since they've existed (points to Battle Angel Alita, known as GUNNM in the original Japanese) - So has TokyoPop (Sailor Moon) Do I hate them for that? Not really... for series like Pokemon, it would be foolish to keep all of the original Japanese names. I was surprised when I saw the people names (but not the card names, mind you) unchanged from the original Japanese in Yu-Gi-Oh! - It probably helped that the characters are blatantly Japanese. However, the Case Closed Detective Conan changes pissed me off because these characters are blatantly Japanese and this series cannot be marketed for kiddies who are quite young in the states. So does TMS expect Conan fans to buy this? XD And as for One Piece, Viz is tying it in the wrong way if they are legally allowed to use "Zoro" but insist on using "Zolo" in Chapter 50. They should consistently use "Zoro" but mention his name is spelled Zolo in the anime.

I don't mind Zolo at all. The name is great. They all seem to have wacky names and it fits the show well. So far this has been a very interesting series.

I guess the name Zolo is OK, but it's the principle of the thing: they changed it 48 chapters into the series! but hey, it could be worse- Luffy: this is my pirate crew- Nancy, Sammy, and Johnathan! (these were the name changes I predicted for the anime) I really think 4kids had some say in this name change, though...

Anyways, I mailed a letter to Shogakukan to see if I can get Gosho Aoyama to force the Japanese names into the USA Conan manga (yea, I'm so damned rabid about it)

Nami in no way looks like a Nancy yo me, unless Nancy was supposed to be one of the guy's names.

Nami in no way looks like a Nancy yo me, unless Nancy was supposed to be one of the guy's names. Nancy was the only "N" name I could think of that sounded roughly like Nami (cuz 4kids has started to make their dub-names sond similar to the originals [Manta/Morty, Ryuu/Rio, Jonouchi/Joey, etc]). then again, they coulda opted for Mary or something. but I'm glad they kept Nami

I found the latest GN has the "Zolo" change but the previous one still sez "Zoro"-
Hopefully Viz will change it all back to Zoro and add a message saying "Zoro known as Zolo in the TV show" XD
