Winx: A great wannabe of Anime.

I know this probably isn't in my position to say anything considering I'm new and people can hate me. >.>

On Saturday, some of us get up to watch our daily cartoons or anime. Since Shaman King is aired on Foxbox, we turn our channels there every once in a while yes? Well, I'm guessing many suffered the horrible ordeals of the show called Winx....

And thus my rant begins.....

Winx had succeeded well in Italy if I remember, and one of my friends in Italy had seen Winx, (She'd never seen anime style....gasp.) and told me that the artwork and everything was so good. That she'd never seen a show like this before.

I believed her and urged myself to get up more earlier in the morning to watch Winx. (During that time, I was a laxy person...i only woke up to watch Shaman King and not to mention, I had a huge project due and was pushing myself to finish it on Friday...I slept at 4:00 a.m)

Hearing all the good comments I expected something to be nice along here too.


Boy was I wrong...


The show was horrid in my point of view.

For one, it is a complete valley girl cast show casing here. The whole, 'drop dead gorgeous'.

Two, it looked something like Sailor Moon mixed with the Matrix effects. I mean as in most were computer generated in effects. The fairy bit was traumatizing. (I hate valley girls, or anything of the such, so blame me. XD)

Three, the plot is an utter disgrace. It is the ever usual, 'Good guys versus bad guys' with episodes such as 'Good guy on the verge of being killed by bad guys but good guy suddenly gets powers'.

Four, a bad mix of cartoons and anime. I have nothing against Sailor Moon, but they stewed Magical Girl Plot with Harry Potter. (Once again nothing against Harry Potter either, one of my favorite books)

And finally, the one thing that made me speechless is the fact of effort. Whenever the people 'talk, their mouths don't move, why? Because they move around.

I.E Number 1 girl talks but while she does, it shows the eyes of number 2 girl. When 1 is done talking, it shows 1 girl's face while 2 is talking her gums out.

It continues this way a lot. If someone talks, instead of showing the person's mouth move, it goes into some sort of close-up of another person's eyes/face. It kind of shows the effort they put in. The expressions are strange besides from what they're saying, and the same pattern I mentioned below keeps going.


Sorry to rant, but I needed to get that off. It's exactly like Totally Spies. I shudder....

Saturn and Lordcyber dislike the show too, If I recall.
I have no opinion really. I've only seen snipets of it, I haven't heard anything good about it, and I too dislike the valley girl way of talking.

Really, I tend to avoid Foxbox when I can.
(Oh, uh, on that note, you guys should probably inform me when it's announced that new epi's of Shaman King are gonna come on... *cough* heh ^^;.)

Worst show ever!

I couldn't watch it for more than 30 seconds. The over use of still frame animation started making me dizzy. Seriously!

We've definetly gone past the days where people couldn't make characters walk and talk at the same time. I don't see why they can't put more time into it. It appears to me extremely low budget and a poor excuse for a female targetted animation. Not to mention I hate shows that have to always focus around fashion and boys. Reminds me of Totally Spies on Cartoon Network. Ugh...those shows are so full of sugar I'm getting a toothache just thinking about it.

Hell yeah Matamune! You just made friends with everybody on this board with that post!

I think I said we couldn't watch the show more than 10 seconds in one of my posts...seriously I think the longest I left it on was 20 seconds...but I just could not stand that show...there is one mortal sin with me and animation that is freakin' still-frames. There's absolutely no excuse for it...Hanna Barbera and Warner Bros. didn't need it back in the 40's to pull off animation and we don't need it now! I hate Transformers Armada for doing it, I hate Winx Club even more for using pan n' scan with still frames.

It is utterly terrible on all levels; animation, story, sound, music, creativity...and it blows my mind that 4Kids thinks it's airplay quality for the young girl demographic.

If it doesn't die this summer, and if it makes it into a season slot come Fall, I will be totally surprised.

And now I need to collect myself and write a qualitative post elsewhere on a good show.

It's a surreal look at an alternate universe message board that parallels are own, but doesn't hold to our laws of physics or animation.

Seriously, it was really wierd reading this thread about Winx Club where post-ers have enough intelligence to pull off information about Nielson ratings, target demographics, and how many mangas Winx is up to in Italy, but they never mention the animation quality of the show...only that they "really like it". One person compares it to his other favorite...Totally Spies...ugh.

I still cannot fathom this alternate world where brilliance and stupidity co-exist on the same level...

The only possible answer I can come up with is that these post-ers are young and have no bandwidth...so young that they aren't allowed to watch anything mature, and low bandwidth connections because they seem to know about quality shows and characters from Japan...but I don't think they've ever seen an episode...I think all of their information is second-hand or third-hand from reading fan shrines...this is my only working theory...

I'm reading it again...it's so bizarre...they're holding intelluctual discussions on a terrible terrible show...

Winx Club is nothing more than a bunch of tramps using magical powers to 'save the world.' *Cough**Totally Spies*Cough*. The animation is horrid, and I wouldn't withstand watching more than ten seconds. Worse, it's an I.E. show, which means it's made to teach little kids.

The only little kids they'll teach will be little girls. What they'll learn is that if you dress trashy and wear too much makeup, you'll gain magical powers and be able to save the world.

I rather watch Totally Spies than this show. They both mind numbing, but Totally Spies has cuter girls.

Yeah...Totally Spies is pretty cool but I'm just saying that cuz I'm a fan.Anyways Winx Club is sort of Stupid (Considering that All of them are Sam,Alex and clover wannabes)But if they had a little thing were the spies met the Winx Club,The spies would win and kick their fairy @$$es.

lovely, new episodes will be airing september 11th, since this sat (the 4th) episodes 25 and 26..i believe.. will be airing in that back to back thing..and thats where the dub left off..so basically new episodes will be on september 11th....
not only shaman king... both the fox box and kids wb will be airing new seasons on the 11th..and and off topic---according to the poll...tokyo--i mean.. mew mew power in in the lead.

I'm not a fan of the show as well. A lot of these American cartoons (or what I've seen) have been encouraging extremely thin girls with midriffs showing and the like. It isn't enough that models and magazines and stars influence what we think of as "perfect" now, but the CARTOONS are trying to do that now too!

And when they DO show the mouths when they speak... It looks very weird and odd. O.o Anime already talks with just flapping mouths, but this show... isn't even in sync. O.o Its weird. I don't like it at all.
