I never said they weren't, I just pointed out that the 9-14 range is higher, and 4Kids target audience is 6-11. The audience that watches Toonami is more diverse in age in general than the Saturday morning viewers are.

Takinawa: and you know what sucks the most? The DVDs will inevitably bomb, but say they don't. 4Kids will think that they don't have to go the extra mile by releasing uncut DVDs, so they'll just abandon the project altogether and keep releasing edited DVDs. Even if the edited discs fail, they'll still probably find a way or excuse to keep them going, or they'll just decide that One Piece couldn't be successful at ALL on DVD and scrap OP DVDs entirely.
What pisses me off the most is that they actually worked on a couple of uncut episodes, so all it would take is to time the subtitles and authoring the DVDs - something they already have to do with the edited discs. God, they have everything ready, it's just like there's this huge wall that prevents them from doing it.
All it would take is one uncut DVD with four episodes to convince 4Kids to release the series uncut. Scheduling a second volume three months later, and seeing how it works out from there. I'd like for them to actually give some time for One Piece to pick up its steam if they do decide to release it uncut, too, unlike what they did with Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh! - "Oh, they didn't live up to our impossibly high standards after just a month or two of being on the market, so we pulled 'em. GENIUS, eh?" 8 volumes of 4 episodes, released over a period of a new volume per three months (if sales don't justify releasing it faster, anyway). I think two years is a long enough time to get a basic idea of how the uncut release would sell, right? It took a year for One Piece to pick up the pace on TV, they should give the same treatment with the uncut DVD release (if it is ever to be).
Sorry for the winded rant, but I just wish 4Kids would give the uncut market a REAL chance.

Here comes a little ray of hope again:
This is encouraging. Considering that Viz just recently announced "There are no plans to release anything uncut", I wonder if the negative reaction and the letter sending actually got through to them. I'm definately not holding my breath, though. I'll believe it when I see it.

Well sorry to say guys, it was mentioned in the Arlong Park forums, now on ANN, but it looks like Dub Piece is coming back on 4krapTV "after the holidays." So it looks like we'll soon get to see Alabasta get f**ked up (assuming that the return of Dub Piece isn't a lie). Sidenote: Takumi, if you're reading this, has they're been anymore news from the Viz contact regarding the possibility of uncut box sets?

Yay, I've been watching the REAL episodes again (140-150 something.) It's a lot of fun and it made me realise what the filler arcs lack. A sense of wonder. Well, that's just my impression anyways. Another thing is how Oda and Takei (Shaman King author) seem to have a similar sense of humor sometimes. It's the really quick, easy to miss gags.***** For example. In one scene. A random lil' octopus is just hanging around on deck. HALF A SECOND LATER. Everyone is eating Takoyaki *laughs* ***** One more thing- Hatchi's cool. He has his own ministory in the manga where he meets a girl and starts his own business. ^_^ I read a bit about this on Wikipedia. One thing stood out to me. The business Hatchi starts. A TAKOYAKI stand. So, so very wrong....

A sense of wonder, maybe...but they also lack, er, a decent plot? And proper portrayal of the characters? Or how about relevance? I just can't stand that Rainbow Mist arc, it was awful. But at least 144 starts back on track again to Jaya. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff like that. XD Yes, very wrong...XD although the mermen in OP are actually mammals, most likely humans that developed fish-like characterisics, it's still wrong.

There's a snag in releasing the unedited version. 4Kids is still working out the pros and cons of it, and it's currently not on the schedule for 2006, though that could easily change.
This only proves the theory that I've had all along - 4Kids just released Yu-Gi-Oh! and Shaman King in a (futile) effort to shut people up. The fact that they're actually considering if uncuts are going to work in the market, while annoying (as we all know they will), is uplifting. I think that if 4Kids releases uncuts for One Piece and they sell extremely well (which I'm sure they will - it's only #2 behind Naruto on TV and in print), they'll pursue it and slowly phase out the edited version and slowly phase in the uncut version. Releasing a box set of about 10-20 episodes at about 30-40 dollars with proper subtitles would probably be the best way to see how it'd work out.
Of course, if 4Kids decides to release 3-episode, dubtitled DVDs, I'm just not going to bother.

And I present to you all, another reason One Piece rocks. That's right. I didn't mess with this image at all. It's an ACTUAL screen shot from the show. They love me, they love me.
