Yeah, it's on Toonami on Saturdays, 9:30pm.
The episode wasn't horrible, name changes and bad dialogue aside. A lot of the new voices were some of the better ones in the series. I'm curious to know who is doing Ace(*cough* Trace). Sanji should have had that voice.
And I still don't get why people think Bon Clay sounds like Bill Cosby. One person said it and everyone jumped on the bandwagon. After hearing a lot more of him in the last episode, he most definately does not. He just sounds like a crazy black guy.
Anyway...is there anyone here who is still following One Piece that doesn't have access to the uncut version?

So, Ace's name has been change to "Trace?" ....wait... why did they change his name 0_o ? I mean... isn't it tattoed to his arm? (ah, for the most part ^^;.) And... there's nothing objectionable about the name "Ace" anyways. Did 4kids hate the original series THAT much? Maybe they visited Japan once and had a bad experience with a Luffy cosplayer or something...

I think its just the mentality of the "creative executives" that have their hands on the show. I have a little theory on these sorts of changes, but I don't really feel like typing it all out so I'll quote myself from Arlong Park: "You know, I think I have a little theory on why exactly the names were changed, and this may also contribute to why One Piece is edited the way it is on TV (I'm reffering to changed plotlines, personalites, story, stuff like that):
A few months back, I was reading one of the Answerman's columns on ANN. Well one of the questions that someone had written was concerning the issue on why companies change the BGM of their shows sometimes.
Well one of the answers that he gave (which he also called "tragic") was that shows tend to fall in the hands of a "creative executive". This meant that sometimes new music is made for a show so that these "executives" can leave thier thumbprint so to speak, only to show that they had some sort of hand in the actual creation of the show. Answerman even went on to hint at One Piece as an example of a show taken over by a "creative executive."
So I was thinking that this same sort of thing may apply to other aspects of the Dub Piece beyond the horrid BGM. The unecessary name changes, the whole cutting out Laboon and rewriting the Log Pose dealie...a really "tragic" way for 4kids to say 'Hey, we helped make this show!'"Third question down, thats the Answerman column I'm referring to.

Yes, Al Kahn, the "uncreative executive". Apparently they added the line to the theme song, "Chopper's Doctoring" Well, one thing that I think is a step in the right direction, is that they clearly showed that Crocodile killed those pirates (you could see their dried skulls and bodies on the ground), even if it was still edited. Croc's voice wasn't so good in this episode. He doesn't sound menacing enough. I thought Bon-chan's appearance was amusing, except for that obviously they cut the part where he says "even the body!" and flashes his chest in Nami's form (which leaves the audience wondering why Nami was so pissed at him), and unlike the Japanese version, the dub VA's are too lazy to actually mimic Bon's voice during the scenes where they're speaking as him. Does anyone else get this feeling while watching the dub...you watch stuff going on with other characters, and it seems decent, and then they get to the actual crew, and it just starts to make your ears bleed between Luffy's constant shouting, Sanji's snooting, Usopp's shrieking, and Nami and Vivi's horrible acting? And Zolo's bad dialogue....

I kid you not, I was laughing really hard at the "Doctoring" part. It was just that funny.

Well, theres no Arlong Park right now, so I'll give some of my thoughts on the double-header dub that was shown this night....
--No episode merging so far, but then again, there really wasn't anything serious to cut out.
--To me, something felt a little bit off about the Luffy & (tr)Ace relationship. I mean, those guys are really brotherly in every aspect and yet it seems that 4Kids is sort of (very subtley) creating a whole "BLAARG! Sibling Rivalry!" undertone.
--The traditional retarded dialog and stupid-ass puns, "He got flamed out!" (....wait...what?)
--They actually kept Mr. 11 getting shot, even if it was with a green gun. Now if only they could just use words like "kill", "death", "die", etc.
--How long are they gonna try to keep viewers convinced that Smoker is not smoking? It was looking pretty obvious tonight.
--Ace still seems like a very polite guy, even in dub mode, and his voice is still pretty good. Oh, but they did cut out more scenes that involved bowing (when Ace first jumps aboard the Going Merry and thanks the crew for "looking after" Luffy.)
(next eppy)
--Holy Crap! They actually kept in the scene with the riceballs. And they actually acknowledged riceballs, not cookies or doughnuts or anything. (The magic of the moment was ruined then by Luffy making a Vanilla Ice reference, I'm not kidding!)
--Crocodile, still needs to be lower. Robin, I'm convinced she would be PERFECT without the Southern accent. (It dosen't sound too too bad though)
--They kept all the city names accurate (Yuba, Erumalu) and Vivi even showed a map WITHOUT text editing.
--The Dance Powder explination was broken down Barney-style*. Ussop even says something about the "Clouds going potty over town." It was ridiculous!
*("Barney-style" is a Marine Corps term for, as the name implies, for explaining somethig in an extrememly simple manner, theres your fun-fact for the night ^_^)
--They also keep the scene where they find the skeleton, and make a little grave for him/her/whoever. (Too bad Vivi's dub voice sucks at portraying any emotion!)
Overall, not too bad this far in the Alabasta Disasta. Now, if they could just do something about the crappy voices, bad acting, stupid-ass dialog, and actually keep the f**king original music, I'd say we a Naruto-quality dub here!

Ahh, I called it the "Double Disaster". I mean, some of the puns made me laugh, but most of them made me go "Ugh, that was really stupid."
If you noticed, they only used half of Crocodiles face and just copied it over on itself to cut out the Cigar he was smoking.
YES! THE RICEBALLS! A VERY IMPORTANT VICTORY!!! I'm so glad they left that in. I was making the face Usopp made when he shot the canon, and sunk two Marine ships.
Ah, the city names are actually correct. Too bad that's not the case with Shonen Jump. Rougetown hurts my soul.
I agree with the overall statement that it's not going too badly. And that all that needs is some good voices, good acting, good dialog, and the original music, blood, and references to killing and death, that we could have a Naruto quality dub here. (But you have to consider that I pretty much mentioned everything that makes up a show)
Oh, and I still find it funny that Mihawks sword still isn't edited in the opening, but was for the actual episodes.

I have the episodes taped, I haven't watched them yet....
Wow...they kept the RICE BALLS!? Now that's progress. XD I don't imagine it was as funny as in the original, but I'll see how it is later.

I'm surprised the word "bloodshed" was used.

Clearly they have, in fact, loosened up on editing since they moved to Toonami. And they seem to be making better choices for newer casting, however, unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that half of the MAIN cast still sucks.

True indeed, I still have the habit of watching the a whole episode muted, turning up the volume only to hear the voice of a newly introduced character.

Latest from Austrailia: I have nothing to say.... Other than that 4Kids COMPLETELY, and UTTERLY fails at everything! And when the hell did Luffy have sleeves?!

So Crocodile "picks" Luffy up, turns him upside down, then drops him in sand. Rrrrrrrrrrright.
