true, true, but the funny things is, is that in Japan, they can air Shaman King, with all the blood, guns, and cuss words, for children around the same age, but u.s. (or werever else the 4kids version is at) can't. That's what I find interesting. Almost none of the blood was cut (for some reason), half of the guns were left untouched, and the swearing issue is debateable (first of all, there aren't really any swear words in Japan, second of all, they were allowed to say "Jackass"... even though they were talking about the animal.) I'm just going to hope that this episode was dubbed early on (I once read that they sometimes dub episodes out-of-order), and we'll go back to our "much better than we expected, but still not great" dub next week. I mean, Mari talks in the third person in the video game, right? So there's still some hope. Look at Milly. |

Hao-go's, lol. Never heard that one before. I don't think Bill (the football) dude wears any of the Hao-go's, but I think other then him, Ashil is the only other Hao follower who doesn't were hao's trademark thing. I started it in the Hao topic in the non-dub SK forum. And yes, Bill has them. They're his kneepads. |

Oh, yup, your right. ^_^ Forgot about those. I guess Ashil is the only one without Hao-go's.
Actually there are quite a few, pretty much the same amount that we have, I just think that the Japanese don't use them as much as we do, because Japan is more of a "polite" country, if you know what I mean. But in anime's anyway, the "S" word (well, at least it's equivilent in meaning) is the most commonly used.

Actually, while swear words do exist...most insults in Japan are a simple "you", but said in an insulting manner. Remember, the Japanese usually have more than one word for simply one word. You know, like "I" there's 'watashi', 'atashi', 'boku' etc. There's another one...but I can't remember it at the moment. ^^
Same with "you", you might have noticed that most subs read "You Bastard!" or maybe "Damn You!" (pardon the language) while really, the character is simply saying "YOU!"...in an insulting manner.
You know about Ren's "Kisama!" right? "kisama" is actually the most insulting form of "you", (I believe...I can't remember if there's a more insulting one...) it doesn't mean 'bastard' like most fans have translated.
The wonderful words of You:
"Anata" - polite ('anata' is also used between married couples, for them it means 'sweetie' or 'honey' ect...)
"Anta" - a short version of "anata"; though this one is not polite...
"Omae" - informal, it can be used between close friends, though I *think* it's insulting if you say it to a stranger...o_0
"Temee" - rude...and generally insulting..
"Kisama" - even more insulting >3

There is also "aitsu" which I believe litterally means, "that person". But it's rude enough that my Japanese dictionary translates it as "that (damn) person" .
Weeeee~ the many ways to be rude in Japanese, as taught to us by anime XD .

Well, a couple of points, a bit nitpicky of me really, though.
1) I believe "Temee" is the worst version of "You", meaning literally "You F***", at least where I read up. But "Kisama" is still like the second/third worst way to say "You", the possible second being "Temae".
2) "Aitsu" is like a really informal way of saying "He". Literally, it's like "That guy". "Koitsu" is "This guy".
But really, it's all about the context of who and/or how it's being and being said by.
For example, Ren's "Kisama" is on terms with a lot of the villains in DBZ, who often call their enemies "Kisama", except Vegeta, who, like Ren, calls everyone "Kisama" on a habitual basis.
Or if a girl wants to sound tough, she'll use "Anta" and "Atashi" instead of "Anata" and "Watashi". It's the same with a guy. If they wanna sound tough, they won't use "Kimi" or "Boku", they'll use "Omae" and "Ore".
In truth, while it's a tough language, it's really quite interesting, with all its different contexts for words. It can really tell you about a person.

They also use Baka, sometimes, which can mean something like the lines of "you stupid person" or "idiot" but yeah, getting back on topic here....... |

I believe "kuso" can also be "crap"...and "baka" means "idiot" or "stupid"...like...if someone says "Baka desu!" (or "baka da"...I think...o_0 the "da" is informal) they could be saying "idiot!" or "Stupid!", either translation is correct. You don't have to be specific with wording, as long as the person you're talking to knows what you're talking about and to whom you're referring to. Though it's recommened to word your sentence more, since it's more polite...^^;; Heh, maybe someone should make a "Learn Japanese!" thread. XD By the way Lovely...this is just going even more off topic...@_@ but I must know! Is it cold over there in Florida? o_0 My cousin who lives in Miami said it's been cold lately, and my brother told me the temperature in Miami was 53 degrees...  Back on topic now....^^;; heh...I guess we're going off-topic because there's nothing to mention until Lovely gets the comparison up. XD |

Actually, I believe that Ashil is the only one WITHOUT Hao-gos... I'm pretty sure everyone else has them, somewhere... At least everyone who is in the last 5 episodes... Sorry if this mentally damages anyone, but knowing Ashil and his...uh...liking of Hao-sama, he probably wears one on his undergarments, whatever they may be. >_>; |
