(I apologizie in advance if there is any offense) Considering how the names sound, I have the feeling that there are gonna be more than at least 3 British sterotypes plaguing this show.
Well, I've heard that Yu-Gi-Oh has really been loosing popularity, so (it may sound grim) I hope this helps foward the decline of 4krap entertainment!
On another note, I know that someone from the original discussion mentioned that most bios of the characters were entierly wrong. If then true, then what are the orginal characters like?

I think perhaps the Harry Potter similarities are intentional. Considering the show does have a bording school/house based system in place.
Perhaps 4kids also have some kind of theory that they will attract the Harry Potter audience with the names and the system of the school in the show. It would actually be an interesting marketing idea if that is the case. This show, like the next season of Sonic X, has a destinct Dragonball GT smell on it. I can't see it being all that good, but I have actually heard the show isn't THAT bad. I'm not a huge fan of Yu-Gi-Oh's art anyways, so I think I'll stay away.
I think Judai's name change was the best of the lot. Funny how they always seem to try and keep the main character similar if altered at all.

I've never seen GX really, just part of 1 raw, and I can already tell that it's not gonna be a popular one. It's a sequel that takes place in another time/universe, kinda like Digimon Tamers, and Digimon Frontier, apart from Digimon Adventure & 02. For those who watched the origionals (that would be Adventure and 02) Tamers and Frontier were just not as good. GX is very similar to this manner, and you're also right that YGO has been declining in popularity lately. A GX dub will just forward the downfall of 4kids to an earlier date, basically, will shorten the time until they're completely bankrupt, and have to go out of buisness. Fox will be back in control of the 8-11 AM EST timeblock, until 4kids rises under another name, or Al Kahn ends up like this...

Meh, I said something like that earlier, concerning the accents, but now that I think about it (and after seeing everyone mentioning HP), it would not be a surprise if everyone has a bad British/Cockney/Australian accent. Just curious, Tonfa, do you mean the show is losing popularity, or the whole Yugioh franchise (show, toys, games, TCG, anything else 4Kids has promoted the series on, etc) is? And on a side rant, it seems ridiculous if they are going to air both the regular series and GX at the same time, seeing as GX takes place after Yugioh ended. Plus, Yugioh still has a long way to go before ending, unless 4Kids decides to skip over the KC Grand Prix arc and go straight to the Egyptian/Memory World arc (personally would not bother me, since KC was apparently a filler arc in order to get the anime and manga at the same point).

It wouldn't surprise me if they cut out an arc. Considering that in One Piece, they cut out filler arcs, and mini stories, also, they cut out a short manga arc (Laboon). 4kids already cut out an arc from YGO too, it was the very first arc, 26 or so episodes were cut right from the beginning!

That's it! I have to get the Goatse man to come over to New York City!
I e-mailed saying that changing the names now was dumb, and that if kids wanted Harry Potter, they would read Harry Potter!
"4kids already cut out an arc from YGO too, it was the very first arc, 26 or so episodes were cut right from the beginning! "
Not true - That was a completely separate TV show based off of the same manga that was made by Toei Animation!

Thats what I thought at first, but technically, 4kids DID NOT cut that arc out, Although it is usually a big misconseption by alot of people. The original Yu-Gi-Oh anime, all 27 episodes were really an entirely different series which followed the first volumes of Kazuki Takahashi's manga more closely (which were not based around the card game). It was produced by a different company altogether (Toei, I beleive) and had a different set of voice actors. (FUN FACT: Megumi Ogata (Kenshin) was the voice of Yugi in this series) The Yu-Gi-Oh anime that were all familiar with is known as "Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Monsters" in Japan, which was picked up by TV Tokyo I think (correct me if I'm wrong), which of course goes through the Duelist Kingdom all the way through the Egypt arcs. The manga however is still collectively recognized as just "Yu-Gi-Oh." The original series was alot darker and violent. And theres a snowballs chance in hell that we'll ever see those episodes... And all I can think of now concerning Toei's "Yu-Gi-Oh." Oh, and Useless, I'm pretty sure that the whole franchise is going downhill, Based on an article about 4kids finnancial reports which I read on ANN. I had made a topic about it some time ago. shamankingu.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=tv&action=display&thread=1116607599Here it is.

Though, i don't know how much card crap I can take. -____-; That's why I stopped watching YGO.

Not really - the original series is somewhat more darker and violent, but it's nothing compared to the manga.

... They left Jun alone in Shaman King and Daichi alone in Beyblade... so why bother to change it now? It's insane... I don't understand why a name will be left in one series and then the same name will be changed in another series.

Beyblade was done by Nelvana. And funny, I don't remember Takao being able to be read as "Tyson". Ironically enough, the rest of the Bladebreakers kept their names. Kai, Max and Rei were all the original names.

Max's last name was changed from Mizuhara to Tate.
Rei became Ray.
If 4Kids hasn't started the dubbing process, they would realize that the poor reaction to the new names does not bode well at all.

All I can think of is Scary Movie (especially in 2 where they're doing the "Ray" "F**ked me!" scene.

And so begins our tale of a young, token British boy named Jaden as he ventures into the world of Duel Monsters. *smokes pipe and sits by the fire* This is supposed to be 4Kids's first cable-exclusive dub (i.e. dubbed for cable - like FUNimation giving Dragonball Z a lighter edit after it was booted out of syndication), and if this is any indication of how future shows will be treated then it doesn't bode well. If so... rest in pieces 4Kids

These are probably 4kid's worst dub names ever. Only one person kept one word of their name, Yuki. Chumley? Poor Hayato! Chazz Princeton? WTFOMFG! They'll have to change Manjoume's catchphrase now (Like they'd keep it anyawy).
If 4kids had marketed Yu-Gi-Oh towards it's original audience instead of turning it into a 5 second attention span kid show then maybe the dub wouldn't be losing it's poularity. GX is more kid-orientated but it been getting darker and darker since the 7 assasins arc started.
