The Law of AMVs should be amended to include "My Immortal," though that's really more prevalent in fan fiction than AMVs. But you said fanfics too.

I don't know about "should." I think they just are.
I personally don't like that song at all. people say its powerfull. It's not powerful, its selfish. Everytime you here that song you think about how sad and pathetic your life is. If you think that it might just be true. Its f**king annoying to hear that ever time your best friend is over after being in the hospital for two weeks after nearly commiting suicide.
This is probably already stated. No 16 year old male character should look like he is sixteen.

The Law of the Tensai (Prodigy):
A tensai can only be a male between the ages of 13-15, sometimes a special excepection is made for the age of 17. Usually, they only excel in strategy and combat, but this reaches into sports and games as well.
If you're older than seventeen, retire. Its over you. Some other 13-15 will be taking your place all too soon.
This is especially true in mecha/fighting series, where militaristic themes appear.
Examples, Heero, Quatre, Trowa (Gundam Wing).
Retired Tensai: Zechs (Gundam Wing).
The Law of the Tensai (Prodigy) 2:
Girls are exempt from the Law of the Tensai (because regardless of how well they do it, they are never on the same levels as males). They should never be held in the same light of genius as males. Should there be a female that comes close to being a Tensai, she shall be ignored and neglected, and ultimately never recognized as a genius of anything.
Examples, all females in shonen action series.
ETA: I so agree with you about that Sstein. Sorry to hear that about your friend.

The Puppy Love Law
It is impossible to hate two cute little lovey-dovey kids in any anime. Examples: Sentaro and Skuld, Hippo and Yuuri, Tart and Pudding, etc.
The Law of Instant Yaoification II
Ninety percent of shonen-ai couples in anime fanfics will be best friends, rivals, or rivals who have become friends but won't admit it.

The Law of Dragon Ball Z
In fighting anime, the characters all must scream like a psychopath in order to summon up their fighting chi (or power or whatever it is you want to call it). Although this is almost ridiculously common during DBZ, other anime have been known to employ it.
The Law of Battle Incantations
All character attacks must have a name to it... and they can't be less than 1 word or 5 letters (at best). 9 times out of 10, the character must say the whole name of the attack at least once to use it. Otherwise the attack will fail and the character will be left open for a good kick to the head.
Law of Good Sportsmanship
Enemy characters must allow their opponents to finish calling out the names of their attacks. Even if the character is required to say each syllable of let's say... Super Mercury Kitty Bebop Form Kamehameha Pikachu Pinky Winky Blast slowly while standing still and leaving themselves open for 30 minutes, the enemy must wait until that character is finished doing and reciting all of the necessary things for their attack. There have been only a few exceptions to this rule...
