I haven't seen the anime, but I have read the manga. (Not VIZ's mind you...T_T) I read Viz' release, which is perfectly fine. And it is pretty violent (Gato gets his head chopped off).

Yeah the technique names dont sound right in English it should be written how it sounds like in japanese and then it could be translated right under it like how they did it during Yoh's battle against Horohoro in the manga. Worst name change to me is Kakashi's lightning blade which sounds so much more authentic in its japanese name chidori
I hope they dont change the name for razegan

Maybe not perfect, but most of the technique names are like the original Japanese.. I guess I worded it a bit wrong >.< - But yes, I enjoy Viz' release of Naruto. The attack name business doesn't bother me. "Yeah the technique names dont sound right in English it should be written how it sounds like in japanese and then it could be translated right under it like how they did it during Yoh's battle against Horohoro in the manga." Naruto does NOT take place in the real world. That is probably why Viz chose to translate/change attack names. Not perfect, their technique names are pretty bad.

I have no clue what Spanish-language publishers are up to, but you may wanna check Spanish or Mexican publishers to see if they have Naruto. Glénat publishes Naruto in Spanish. (See www1.dreamers.com/manga/Glenat/NARUTO/) The Spanish version also messes with the non-character names. I found www.edicionesglenat.es/ but apparently their website is under construction.

No...^^;; Nicaragua gets nothing. Not even Archie comics. XD You see, Nica. may be the largest country in Central America, but it's the poorest. Only the capital has all the "today" things, and not many...this place hasn't come in contact with the "anime craze".
So things like anime or manga don't sell here. Only the really popular ones, like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! (TV that is). The only thing they import from Mexico are TV shows...
For some reason, BeyBlade is getting really popular...I guess it's only the things that air on the top 3 kids' channels, CN, Nick, and Jetix. *cringes because she remembers all the spanish kids yelling "Let iiitt rrripP!"*
Hmm...Nica does have good connections with Japan, but not anime-wise. Japan gives us yummy supply water. XD

I'm with Vicious on the technique name thing. I really, REALLY hate it when things like attacks (that SPECIFICLY say what the attack does) is left in Japanese to be more "accurate to the original". I mean, WHAT? In Japanese, the attack name ... specifically says what the attack does... why shouldn't we in the U.S be allowed to understand as well?
(for the record, the not translating attack thing is one of the things that annoys me in the One Piece fansubs.)

eh, I personally like the Japanese attack names better, even though the translations are kind of accurate (except for all that "Art of..." business). I agree with Headphones in that it's better when the original Japanese name should be there with an English translation on the bottom (so we people in the U.S. can understand it). To me, "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!!" just sounds infinitely cooler than "Art of the Doppelganger!!"

"Art of the Doppleganger"?? o_0 Yeah...ok... What the hell's a Doppleganger? I sort of agree with both...you see, simply translating attacks and re-naming them to those are fine with me. But re-nameing them funny things irks me...like Len's "Rapid Tempo Assault". Where'd that come from? o_0 Sounds like something that has to do with music... I'm glad Hao-sama has no attack names...he just says "Spirit of Fire" (burn burn). But 4kids will probably make up some chessy name for all I know... "Spirit of Fire! Fire Blast!" No...wait...isn't that a Pokemon attack? o_0 Back on topic...now, leaving the Japanese names, and putting translations is fine by me also. As long as they translate it. Honestly, while reading the manga...I often got confused with the jutsus. They're were too many...@_@ Or maybe the names were too long I merely thought there were too many... What do they call "Sexy no Jutsu"? (That's it right? Man...I should finish reading Naruto..o_0) I saw it somewhere on this thread...but I'm too lazy to go look. @_@

they used Sexy no Jutsu a lot during the Jiraya intro. Is there such thing as a super strong and wise pervert.......oh wait, Dragonball--Kamesennin, in the past. Basically most of the strong ninjas are perverts, except the girl ninjas and Orochiamaru. Those super strong perverts include Kakashi and the third hokage <sigh> i ve been using pervert a little bit too much

I HATE HATE HATE HATE what Viz has done to the attack names...maybe it's becuase Naruto Manga Returns has jaded me, but really, the Japanese attack names sound WAY better than the nerdy crap that come up for the translation. I agree that if they just put the Japanese names, and then translate them in English afterwards (like "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu! Art of the Shadow Clone!" or something like that). I mean, I just don't like what they end up translating the names into...I mean "Doppelganger"? That word is just screaming 'STUPID". Why can't they just use "Shadow clone?" Or "Shadow copy", at least...no, wait, that sounds too much like Shikamaru's "Shadow Copy no Jutsu". Whatever.
And is it just me, or is Viz's translation of Naruto deteriorating?

It's prolly just you... if anything, Toriyama's World is influencing the translation as they asked for less cursing.
