The main reason I brought up that site was to show that people were getting the wrong impression of the show. 4kids deliberatly butchers the show for a kid's program (just like they apparantly tried to licence Naruto, but TV-Tokyo wouldn't let them) and never released an uncut, or apparantly plan on releasing an uncut.

If they give the show bad ratings because it's not educational, then probably the only shows that must get good ratings are on PBS.

Heh, you're proably right, however, they are basing it off the fact that One Piece is running in a childrens block.

Well the dub has reached a new level of hell, the Apis arc is being gutted out.

Who cares if Apis is cut? It sucks anyway. Although I find it strange that 4Kids would pass up on a fairly tame story about a kid and a dragon. I guess there just isn't enough stuff for them to butcher to make it worth it. However, what concerns me more is that they're obviously doing some major merging of the end of Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Laboon, and Whiskey Peak, because episode 45 is called "Baroque Works". Looks like 4 or 5 episodes merged into one. Gee, I hope they leave enough time to explain how navigation of the Grand Line works, and the Log Pose.

Apis does suck, had it on the other day and could barely watch it, but that's still really cheap. You're right, they probably cut it because it was so easy to edit, those douchebags.

Wait, did 4kids get more episodes of the show already? Or this 'Apis arc' all they have up to so far?
Like I said before, My experience with One Piece is about as far as the Arlong arc, and the Shonen Jump pace. I have officially given up completely on the dub.

That's a wise decision. ;D I don't know what you mean by "did they get more episodes". The obviously have as many as they want.
How far is Shonen Jump with the manga anyway?
Well, I didn't really want to say this for fear of it being a misunderstanding, and I don't want to start a false rumor, but when I went to Comic-Con last week, I went to a Viz panel and I talked to one of the editors. When I mentioned that I really didn't like 4Kids version of the anime, she said (very happily), "oh, but WE'RE doing the DVDs!" Now this is news to me, because from my understanding, the TV version DVDs that are coming out in the fall are being distributed by Toei, and Viz has nothing to do with them. I really wish I was able to prod her for more answers, but I was getting the impression that they're working on something else, maybe even uncut DVDs. I did ask if they'll be uncut, and she just smiled and said something like maybe, sort of niether confirm nor deny. So I'm a little confused, but it gave me some hope that maybe there will be a decent DVD release after all. But again, I really don't know, it could be that they're just releasing the same crap TV version, and maybe she was just irked that I told her I don't like the version that they have to release. XD

Well to answer the comment Cosmic-san, I had heard that 4kids had only had the rights to the first 50-some episodes of One Piece, and considering that they merged so many, and skipped a mini-arc, I figured their time with the show was drawing to a close. So I was essentialy wondering if 4kids had licenced more episodes. As far as Shonen Jump goes, to draw an analogy, I'd compare it to a little bit past episode 31 in the original anime (beggining of the Arlong arc). Hmmm....can't really think of much of a comment about the little bit of news about the DVDs. Their either screwing with you, or providing a big hint that were gonna be pleasantly surprised with with DVD-releases of One Piece in the distant future.... Hopefully, the latter....

Hehe, I don't think she was drunk, I woulda smelled it on her breath. ;D But even if she was, one could either say she was giving away more than she was supposed to, or just not in reality. She seemed like a cool person. I hope it was the latter too, but I keep trying to convince myself of all the reasons why it's not, I hate false hope. Edit: I tried doing some searching online, and the only thing I could find was one page that said Viz is the publisher of the 2nd DVD volume, so going by that it looks like Viz is picking up the TV version, so there go my hopes again, although it still looks a bit brighter for a future uncut DVD release knowing it's Viz doing the releasing and not 4Kids. I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to write Viz and plead for uncut versions, they seem more reasonable than 4Kids when it comes to dealing with fans. I heard that too, but I think that may have been a rumor, or even if it's true, they could have gotten more episodes by now. If they acquired 50 episodes, I would think that it meant 50 original episodes, the cutting came later. In either case, I think it's obvious that they have more than 50 episodes licensed. Probably around chapter 68 to 70. Wow, they have over 300 more chapters to catch up to the current chapters in Japan. And the volumes...it'll take like, 15 years for them to catch up with those at the rate they're releasing them. Crazy.

I wanted to read the manga before seeing the anime (so it wouldn't leave a bad taste in my mouth) but the anime is now quite far ahead of the SJ manga, which is at around the beginning of the Arlong arc. (I hope my SJ comes today.) Oooh! I hope that uncut One Piece is released!!! I've been wanting that ever since I first read the manga. I was upset when all I could find was bootlegs with Chinese subtitles. (In my naivte I didn't realize that, quite often, a show must be dubbed to be later released uncut in America...) My dad says that Germans are quite good at dubbing This is reffering to movies and stuff that he's seen. They choose voice actors so close to the actual ones, that it can seem like they just made a German version of the movie, with the same actors speaking German. (upon hearing this, KuroiInu-chan and I looked at each other. Why can't it be like that here...) So, thank you for the link ^^ It's both German, and OP-related. ^-^ Just wondering, how do they pronounce Luffy in the original Japanese? When I read the manga, I pictured it Luh-fee, even though the typical Japanese pronunciation would be Loo-fee. Or Roo-fee.

Luffy is pronounced "Roofy", in Japanese. This is why he is sometimes called "Rufi".
Actually, the Germans thought like you, in their dubbing, as they called Luffy "Ruffy", and they pronounce "Roughy".

Well, actually, there is no had L or R in Japanese in the same way as in English. There is but one consonant that is sounds like a combination of both. Often times in English dubs of anime, the actors end up pronouncing the R/L sound more like a d-sound, because of the way the tongue rolls. There are good American dubs - One Piece just isn't one of them. And there's always Kaizoku-Fansubs, if you want a good uncut version of One Piece. BTW, looks like more episode merging ahead. We already know the Apis arc is being cut, but it looks like the next episode, titled "Fantastic Voyage", is going to be a merging of the crossing of Reverse Mountain into the Grand Line, and also the two Laboon episodes, and probably even the first episode of Whiskey Peak (which will obviously be called something else), because the next episode after Fantastic Voyage is called "Baroque Works". The Baroque Works' identities aren't revealed until the very end of the first episode of the Whiskey Peak arc (which is very short, btw).

Yeah, it's quite a bummer to see they're dubbing the Baroque Works mega arc. But it can't be helped. I really can't wait to see how Zoro's dub VA is going to do the whole scene where he tests out his new katana. It's a voice that's not extremely annoying (Like dub Luffy, dub Usopp, and dub Sanji), and he handle his lines pretty well.
