Opinions on the dub voices

I think Ren/Len should have an Australian accent. Because I find Australian voices sexy for some reason. *goes off to watch Crocodile Jack or whatever it is*

Since having just got back into the series (after finidng out it got a later timeslot. THANK GOD.), I'll try and remember how some of the other voices from earlier eps sounded and give critiques I guess.

Yoh-Hmm. Yoh's dub voice is one that at certain times will annoy me or will make me like him for a bit. It does fit his character slightly but not entirely.

Yuuko though makes such a cute sounding Yoh! But here's a tip: Don't watch Fullmetal Alchemist THEN watch SK...why? Because Yuuko did the VA of a character in the series known as Lust who, by her name, is pretty *searches for words* seducive sounding for a good deal of the series.... So the switch from seducive to overall cute was a bit Woah. ^^;

Ren- My friend (who's name sounds like Ren's and is chinese herself) keeps biting my head off at his voice everyday when I bring up SK on the phone. But I guess its this as opposed to a chinese-accent. No offense to the chinese accent itself but, the stereotyped chinese-accent is very...crude and bad IMO. Ren's voice, is one to laugh at sometimes and one to like at other times for me, its just a matter of what kind of tone he uses in different situations. (*Laughs* I did nearly fall off of my chair when Ren went postal in ep 37 regarding Jun giving him dresses...that was too cute)

Romi isn't too bad with Ren its just that when you've just finished seeing Fullmetal Alchemist and you start watching SK it just starts putting way too many crossovers in that it can kill your brain sometimes.

Ryo- Ryu's voice is one of the dub voices I've become attached to alot. I mean, its goofy and in a way, suits his character and somewhat matches his original (not entirely but...) . Its one of the voices in this series' cast that I like to hear.

Oh and the good thing is, compared to other spanish-accents I've heard in the dubs I've seen, this one is good and actually for once, fits the character.

The good, VERY good, thing is that they didn't slap him with an Elvis-impersonator accent which, would've made me want to run around and scream.

Horo Horo- Somewhat partially irked that his name became Trey but ah well...This voice I've also taken a liking to too. I mean, it suits Horo Horo's character and he does a good job at the yell-fests or spurts of anger Horo Horo may have at certain points in the series.

Both Yuuji and Sean(?) do good jobs with Horo Horo I find.

Marcoh- Hmm... I love Eric Stuart to bits but sometimes him as Marcoh hasn't worked with me at all. Then again, we've just seen the X-Laws so when we see them again perhaps I'll get used to it.

Anna- I have yet to hear the original (because I've only seen a few clips from the original and episode 1) but she's not bad, kind of reminds me wayyy too much of Ruki Makino from Digimon Tamers but it could be the character type or just the similarity between the voice tones...

Pilika- I barely remember how she sounded like now...(Its been too long) but I remember when I saw the earlier episodes that I liked her voice alot... >_>;

Chocolove- *does some fancy jump-kick* I seem to go anti- on the characters with afros (blame the white fellow with the big afro who sits in front of me in Social Studies....I'm Jamaican and Ethiopian and so I find the afro doesn't suit everyone...especially the guy who sits in front of me in class. but that's kind of been the catalyst in my anti-fro feelings ) I would've liked him in ep 37 if he hadn't said...."possy". You have no idea how much it irks me to hear ghetto-speak. His voice suits him by look but not his joke-pun attitude sometimes so he'll be one to get used to. I'm inbetween here with his voice at the moment.

Omigosh, I forgot about Marco! Yeah, I like his voice. *nods*

*cracks up over girl prejudiced against guys with afros* And Pirika is voiced by Rachel Lillis. Her voice's the same as Misty's from the dub Pokemon. ^^; I like the voice better on Pirika, though.

Just a couple of things...

darkness digimon season three was awesome.

Anyway.... sorry. I just really liked it. It had so much emotion and I'm getting back on topic now.

I like Trey's VA. I also believe that they had to come up with a lame nickname for him since the Boro Boro pun wouldn't work in America. Using a wierd name is a lot better although they didn't have to make it stick. They could have just stressed HoroHoro.

Lirilara's Va was prety good although I have no basis of comparison. It was very serious and I thought it fit her well. I also noticed the Hanagumi are finally introduced next week, and even though the teaser for next week only has the blue haired one (the only name I know is Mari's) speaking. Her voice isn't valley girlish and it doesn't have an accent so I'm fine with it too.

yea, im almost positive its the same VA who does icey from the winx club. *shivers* i just hope they dont give weird va's to the other two hanagumi. with my luck it'll probably be the same VA's as the other two witches in the winx club... -_-;;

The winx Club had the worst acting I have heard in a while! Not that the animation compliments it much. It's really hard to tell which is worse!

Well, for Christmas I got the Japanese SK dvds, so now I can really get into this!!! *sweatdrops*

Anyway, I was watching some of the episodes in Japanese, and I realized...

I HATE HAO'S AND LYSERG'S JAPANESE VOICES.

Lyserg's voice is much cuter when it's high-pitched and feminine. He sounds too much like (my) Ren for my liking. Hao is too girly. He sounds better with the deep voice. If Hao and Lyserg switched VAs in the Japanese version, I'd like them better...

And, I actually like some of the insert dub lines better. Like, in one ep (the one where Millie's oracle pager is stolen), the characters are just having a conversation about where they are when they find her. In the dub, Horohoro is doing a mock-nature-commentary as they come closer. I don't know why, but I found that funny. I also liked Yoh's and Millie's talking about how her drawing looked like some pop star. Again, no idea why this amuses me...

Okay, anyway, back on topic. I actually don't mind most of the dub voices (though from what little I've heard of Lyserg's, I hate it)...even Ren's British accent I don't mind too much. I mean, if you compare Shaman King with other 4Kids dubbed anime, or other dubbed anime in general, it's actually pretty good...I mean, not as sucky as shows like Yu-Gi-Oh *Kills Rex and Weevil's voice actors*.

Hi, I'm new. Not only to this board, but to message boards in general. So uh, I'm sorry if I say anything stupid and annoy people. ;

Back to the topic; Am I the only person that actually likes Ren's dubbed voice? *Tackled*

I just think it suits him. And, well, not many people seem to complain about how certain characters are Japanese and have American accents, so it's only logical (sorta ) that a Chinese person gets a British accent if you know what I mean?

Well that's my opinion anyway.

As for the others, I actually don't mind theirs as much either. Lyserg's is okay, it suits him, I just wish they gave him a British accent.

But Ellie, Millie and Sherona's voices REALLY get on my nerves! >_<

I'm gonna shut up now before I start bugging people.
