The third type is a mix between the "designated amount of episodes" and the "go forever." Many of these, I've found, are series that are based off of an unfinished manga, but aren't appropriate for a never-ending series (FMA and SK come to mind). These are ones where you can't tell a decent story within a single season (26 episodes), but you want to set a designated number of episodes. Usually, these tend to follow the manga so far, then once they get to where the manga is, they go off on their own, creating a different ending. This is where you get your strange episode numbers (like 64). Sailor Moon is a bit like this, except there are 5 season with 200 episodes (which comes down to roughly 40 episodes each season... some have more, some have less), where they tried to follow the manga, until the manga got behind them, and they made up a new ending for each season do you know at which episode/chapter the shaman king anime caught up to the manga and the two go in different directions?

Well, since they reran the season two premier and SK 'IS' airing in my area today at 11:30, it looks like they are going to rerun all of season two until they reach ep. 39 again. EEEEEKKKKKKK!!!!!!!! That means it'll be lik 2 or more months before the start airing new ones again.

do you know at which episode/chapter the shaman king anime caught up to the manga and the two go in different directions? I'm not sure (I've only read/flipped through up to volume 7), but from what I've told, the differences start when they reach Patch Village (episode 43, I believe, and manga volume 13). However, I do know that some things are changed around, such as the Lirilara stuff happening BEFORE they meet Lyserg.

Wait.........Isnt Shaman King ending this season? How many more episodes are left and how much time does Fox have to air them? ....I'm betting the last two episodes air on the same day

There are a total of 64 episodes in the series.
The first season of the dub held episodes 1-25.
So far, the second season has held episodes 26-39, and they've repeated 27 and 28.
If the promos are to be believed, this season will take us to the end of the series. This would mean playing episodes 40-64. However, it is also usually FoxBox's policy of playing every episode of a show twice each season (once on first-run, once on repeat). This will require an additional 11 weeks to catch up with reruns, and an additional 50 weeks to play each of the rest of the episodes twice. For those of you counting, if they don't skip a single week, and play one episode a week, they will finish playing the series on April 26, 2006. That's a little long for one season...
My guess is that there will be one more season after this. This season will end with four more episodes, at episode 43 (this is where they finally reach Patch Village, IIRC). This will make Season 2 into 26-43, for a total of 18 episodes, which, if they play the remaning 4 episodes and repeat the remaining 16 episodes, this will give them 20 more weeks (not counting special weeks where 0 or 2 episodes may be played). This will take them to May. They may even go until episode 46 or so (I completely don't remember what's going on in those episodes, though, so I don't know if it's a good spot to leave off), which will take them to late July. This will give them room for other shows for some weeks.
The final season would then be the remaining episodes. Hopefully, they will play 63 and 64 as a single episode, considering that episode 63 ends halfway through episode 64 (literally... Episode 63 just ends, and the title card for episode 64 doesn't come until well after the eyecatch).

They've only repeated 26 and 27 haven't they? 28 should be this weekend.

4Kids said that SK is ending this season (note, TV season of 52 weeks - 16 weeks have passed). They have 25 episodes left to show, and 12 weeks of reruns. 16 + 12 = 28, 52 - 28 = 24. They'll probably either merge an episode (please god no), or send it off with two episodes on the last day. Or, the best scenario IMO, which would be running an hour-long block starting with Episode 40. Then they'll be able to repeat the majority of the series (assuming they go back to Episode 1 after 64).
Or they could sell it out to Toonami, either way.

I hope they don't. I have the strange suspicion it might make me depressed if I had to see two new episodes a week. I'm not depressed yet since I've only seen about 5 dubbed episodes so the re-runs haven't bothered me yet-but they will, they will. It's like a chemical balance or something. I'll do the 2nd comparison, but I warn you I might be biased (and I don't speak Japenese.)
