...Or as my mom likes to call them "Jumping games". I am refering of course, to "Dance Dance Revolution" (DDR) and "Pump it Up" (PiU) . So anybody here play? Love it? Like it? *gasp* Hate it (how could you??!!) ? Me? I love them both ^^ ! I'm a bit above average at DDR (I can do fairly well in Trick/Standard mode). And Even though I've only played PiU a few times at a local arcade I really enjoyed it. I even get defensive about them. It annoyed me to no end when one of my aquantencies called PiU "The poor Man's DDR" >_< . Some people are so ignorant *hmph!* .

Ah yes! DDR! I need to play that more. Such great exercise. I'm a fan of the older mixes, I prefer 3rd mix and its insane Step Step Revolution mode, although I can only do one song on that mode. 5th mix is also a personal favorite. I'm not overly fond of playing in the arcade though, always had bad experiences with the crowd so I just gave up. I just stick to my home version.
I can't do Pump It Up or those "Reverse DDR" games I like to call them. My brain can comprehend DDR but when you do the reverse arrors it just messes me up.
I can do trick/standard mode on the majority of the songs. I need better dance mats though...
Besides DDR, I really like playing Bust A Groove 1 and 2 on playstation. You don't dance like with DDR, but it has great music to listen to while you play.

What can I say...
Saturn and I have 1st mix(us), 3rd mix(jap), 5th mix(jap), and Extra Mix(jap).
We've played everything else except 2nd, 4th, and any of the goofy offshoots in Japan like Best Hits.
As far as music simulation games go I prefer Bust a Groove where you can control what the dancer on screen is doing from beat to beat.
But most of you have noticed that I'm dressed as Robo-2000 from DDR 5th in my avatar pic, so there's the personal impact of these games!
Hmm...I also recommend Gitaroo Man...it's hard as heck to play, but it's got good music and a demented storyline...yes an actual storyline...
And this'll probably get me kitchen-duty for a week from my Shaman Trainer, Lovely, but I hate Pump it Up...
It's too bad EZ2Dancer died in Korea...it was a dance simulaton game with hand sensors as well...and the dance floor was one solid piece so you could easily slide your foot over to the pressure plates without bumping over those stupid metal ridges that the DDR arcade has.
I've got the commercials for EZ2Dancer if anyone's interested, drop me a line and I'll host them.

*puts lordcyber on kitchen duty. A kitchen that's on fire.. BURN!!!*
*cough*
^_~
I guess what turns DDR vets off of PiU is that, while they may be really good at DDR, you kind of have to start from scratch when you play PiU. But once you get used to it, it's really fun. I have an interesting way to train my brain whenever I play. I play a mindboglingly simple song first to train my feet and brain and then I work my way up. You can actually get some pretty interesting looking moves out of PiU simply BECAUSE of the way the arrows are set up.
Also, PiU (in the arcade version I played) will force you to press more than 2 panels at a time sometimes (only on the harder levels.) Erm.. I never pressed 3 even when I saw it come up on the screen though, I was too shocked and embarassed ^_^;.
I normally play the home version of DDR by the by. I have konamix, DDR Max 1, and DDR Max 2 . All U.S versions, I don't have a modded or Japanese PS2. Out of all of them, I would have to say the U.S version of DDR Max 1 is the worst. Not for the gameplay, but because the song list isn't really to my liking (only a few in there I really like, and a LOT that I don't like at all.) I actually have to use the visualation method I mentioned I used for PiU for DDR in the arcades too, simply because I normally play at home and my crappy dance pad isn't really regulation size ^^;.

LC just told me to mention StepMania. But I'm sure you've seen it already. But just in case www.stepmania.com is the site for it. I'd rather you put him on kitchen duty in my kitchen instead...minus the fire though. Man...I'm tired...oyasuminasai

We just walked over to the bowling alley that just opened right next to our apartment complex. So it's like a 5 minute walk to there. And they have DDR Max 2! Oh, the joy! I must start collecting quarters now. There weren't any annoying people there either. Just a little girl that tried playing Max 300 and got burned and let me play her last two songs.

I'm surprised LC hasn't mentioned this at all so I will I guess. He showed me a clip for DDR Extreme/Ultramix 2. I guess it's for both X-box and PS2. But the nifty thing is that they put in hand movements if you have the camera for the PS2. Now if only they would come out with a version of DDR for the Gamecube...

Crap... looks like I might have to buy that goofy camera ^_~ .
And I don't know WHAT is wrong with Nintendo and the people they work with. I have recently purchased a cube for the sole purpose of playing Tales of Symphonia (magnificant game by the by. Oh, I plan to purchase Baiten Kaitos when that comes out as well). I was shocked by the quick loading times, great graphics and intuitive controlls. However, the Gamecube library is almost completly devoid of RPG's 0_o . You know, their IS a market. My point is, there is also a market for dance/rythm games as well and Nintendo doesn't do a thing to cater to them. Very, very VERY odd business practices.

Donkey Konga?
Actually, Nintendo had their own version of Disney's Rave in production for the N64 but they decided to drop it. It's release would've been scheduled months after the versions for Playstation and Dreamcast. And that would be the last time they experimented with rhythm genre games...
I agree that Nintendo has a poor man's library, but we should probably talk about that in a different thread.

I had to dig 3 pages deep to find this thread. However, I know someone (aka: Lovely) will probably find this information useful. Did you know you can get Pump It Up for your PC? They even sell a dance mat too. www.redoctane.com/pumpitup.html

Concerning PC PiU. Heh, cool, though there really isn't enough room in my PC room to make use of it (that, and my monitor sucks) . Hmmmm... I haven't been to the local mall in AGES, I really should go back to see if they fixed and/or replaced the PiU machine... I just haven't had time to go lately.
