Thanks for putting that subtly Lovely. ;D I agree that the manga of almost every anime is better because the anime tends to leave out details so they can progress the story. They will edit out little things here and there until you realize that they took out a lot more than you thought. Like Anna and Yoh's past!!

Thanks for putting that subtly Lovely. ;D I agree that the manga of almost every anime is better because the anime tends to leave out details so they can progress the story. They will edit out little things here and there until you realize that they took out a lot more than you thought. ( Well you see, that's the thing, normally I LOVE it when an anime and manga are different. Take Shaman King for example. I love both series BECAUSE they are different and they both use the media that they have well. But Lord, the anime to twilight... it just lost the spirit of being connected to the .hack series in general. And that connectivity is where the fun comes from! Not to mention that the anime would forget half the time that it was supposed to be taking place in a GAME world (most odd scene for me in the anime was Shugo complaining about being cold when he's in a snowfield 0_o . He wasn't really there!!!.) It was also annoying how in the anime Rena was regulated to be a COMPLETE damsel in distress 0_o . I'm not saying that I HATED the anime, but... well, the anime didn't work for me. I will say that it did some interesting things in the end though... except for a few moments that were kind of corny 0_o . Now the manga... the manga is great! It treats the majority of the characters with respect. Heck, even Reki gets a chapter all to himself (I like him 'cause he's cute ^^; .) AND it connects to the game in a couple of REALLY cool ways. Not to mention that it reveals some interesting things about the real-life people who are playing the game. Heck, the manga even revealed a few things about Aura herself that I thought was interesting. Well... it FELT more like .hack then the anime, and really that's what made it so great.

You're not the only one who likes Reki, Lovely (mmm... Souichiro Hoshi-sama... who also does chaos-sama...)
Anyway, for Horohoro, here's what we're talking about (WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS. ALL ATTEMPTS TO MINIMIZE THEM HAVE BEEN TAKEN):
Storyline from both- 1. Rena, twin sister of Shugo, wins the avatars (character designs) of the legendary 'dot hackers', Kite and Black Rose. She talks Shugo (who doesn't play games anymore) into playing the game with her. 2. While in a beginner area, Shugo is 'killed', and sees a mysterious girl, who gives him a bracelet (the same bracelet that the hero Kite had used), and restores him. 3. Shugo and Rena make a lot of friends who help them on their adventures.
Anime-only storyline- 4. While in a haunted house, a edited monster is sent to 'kill' Shugo (by four children players), but gets Rena instead. Rena goes into a coma. 5. Shugo searches for Rena, finds out that the 4 players want to 'learn about death.' 6. Shugo tries to save Rena and everyone, seems to succeeed (false climax). 7. The 'final' problem is discovered, the 'final' solution is figured out. They start to use the solution and... bang. It's over. You never find out if it worked or not.
Manga-only storyline- 4. Shugo-tachi meet a girl named 'Zephie,' who claims to be the daughter of Aura (the girl who gave him the bracelet). 5. Shugo-tachi try to help Zephie to find her mom. 6. Shugo-tachi are imprisoned for illegal actions (the bracelet, being with Zephie). 7. They escape, decide to follow their hearts no matter what. 8. Shugo-tachi try to get to where Aura is and... I won't spoil it, it's cool.
The anime felt the need to take the manga characters and rehash the game storyline (must save friend in coma!), and adding a 'villain.' The manga had it's antagonist (Kamui, who is actually pretty cool in the manga), but didn't have an 'evil' force that they were fighting.
And the manga also keeps in mind that this IS a MMORPG. A game where you can play the way you want to, and that has no 'ending.'

Oh yeah, and Kamui was pretty dorky at times in the anime too. That whole slot machine thing ... *shivers*....

Yeah, the manga is better than the anime. But I must know one thing: When on EARTH is the third volume of the manga coming out?

Uh... it's out. I picked up a copy at my local Waldens on Tues ^^; . (to be fair though, Waldens has a habit of getting some books a bit early.)

My Walden didn't have it as of Sunday (I got the day I got it wrong... it was Sunday, not Monday), but I got the last copy from one of my local comic shops. The official release date was last Tuesday (11/09/04), but that was the release date for Saiyuki volume 5 and Suikoden III volume 4, and both of them were out before the 1st (at Walden).
My Walden's computer still said 'August' for .hack 3.

I'd like the LOTB anime more if it wasn't for this happening just about every episode: "SHUGO!" "RENA!" "SHUGO!" "RENA!" "SHUGO!" "RENA!" "SHUGO!" "RENA!" "SHUGO!" "RENA!" "SHUGO!" "RENA!" "SHUGO!" "RENA!" "SHUGO!" "RENA!"
ad infinatum. Ugh...
I really want the 3rd volume of the manga, but my local Barnes & Noble still only has 1 & 2. Eh, at least there's an entire section with just manga :D

Reviving old topic!! *looks for resurie
I have only seen a few episodes of .hack//SIGN so far, but I must say I LOVE IT!!!!
They seem to really throw a lot of information at you really fast. The game series did that as well, so I guess I shouldn't be suprised. I also think the grunties are cute. A lot cuter in the anime than the game.
I'm off to watch more bye!!!

The third volume is the size of TWO volumes if that makes you feel any better.
Seriously, that sucker is thick XD .
