Like Lovely, I pulled out my copy of LoTB 3 after finishing the novel. However, I also pulled out Liminality 4... here's MY observations:
*Was Hokuto someone in LoTB? We know that Y.B. Yates liked to play as different characters, and at the end of LoTB 3 you not only see an image of Hokuto, but the very next page has Reki finding a message on the board from Y.B. Yeats (I'm assuming it's the same person and Tokyopop has again forgotten about continuity in translatons) regarding "Legend of the Twilight" and the events going on.
The manga was started first, but ended last. And Kamui (and/or Saki Shibayama, her player) was originally supposed to be male. Could this be where the gender discrepancy in AI Buster comes from?
It's really interesting, also, to realize how everything came together. Junichiro Tokuoka was the team leader of the localizing team that was translating The World. He was the mentor of Watarai. Tokuoka left suddenly (no one knows the real reason), and eventually Watarai became the leader of the Cobalt Knights, and the mentor of Saki Shibayama (Kamui). Shortly after Saki joined the company, Watarai had to deal with a Vagrant AI, which changed how he saw The World. About a year later, Watarai also leaves the company, because of the incident, taking the blame for it himself. This incident, of course, was the end of the game. During these events, the game's Omega Server was destroyed, permanently replaced by Helba's server. This was done offline, however, by one of Helba's assistants, and Tokuoka (yup, the same guy). Four years after Watarai quit, Saki was involved with another Vagrant AI, which changed HER perception of The World. This AI was the daughter of Aura, the AI who caused Watarai to quit, and the first AI was also involved in this, being the prototype for Aura, as well as being "released" by Aura's daughter. .hack confuses me so much...
And after reading the little Balmung and Reki short at the back... I'm seeing parallels to Tsuzuki and Hisoka...
