My dad is the person who made me get into anime. He loves Ranma and Tenchi... it's kinda scary.

Like I said,my parents don't really care what I watch or read as long as i don't repeat or say anthing bad. This is how I get my manga from my mom sometimes:
My mom:*sees me in the bookstore and says*Want me to get you a book? Me:S-sure.*stunned because she startled me* Mom:How much? Me:Well...10 bucks for this one,and this one and.... Mom:I'll get ya one.Okay? >>; Me:Okay!^__^
That's mostly because I take too long to pick one manga.^_^;

I turned on my tv yesterday and Pokemon was on. James was crossdressing again, and i thought about something..
Do you think some parents would find James crossdressing offensive or something? My mom personally laughed her ass off at it, and i did too, but like i don't know..people who find that sort of thing unexceptable. Think it ever got complained about?

My mom doesn't care much.
I've even showed her my Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.
Mom: "What's that" Me: "Blood Magician the Magician of the Purgatory" Mom: "The art is pretty, and what's this?" Me: "Demon's Axe (a stick with a skull and an axe blade)" Mom: "It's kinda scary"

I play with japanese cards only, so none of them are altered.
Today she saw my "Compensation of Blood" card (a hand bleeding with two freaky eyes in the background, and more blood everywhere) and she didn't say anything. She saw one of a skull coming out of the grave and some lady crying, and she didn't say a word.

You know what I was wondering, has anyone ever looked at a Ken doll before? (from the Barbie series). Ken has (gaspeth!) a butt crack! And yet they edit out Ren's in a rated T manga? Not that I really care about seeing naked SK charactors, it's just the principal of editing an author/illustrator's work. Also, if you check why Shonen Jump is rated T, it's for violence, alchohol and drug use. No mention of nudity, so.... The above may not count for under this post given it's more pretaining to the manga than the anime, but, I do have a comment on the dub! I was chanel surfing less than half an hour ago, and I came to what I later discovered to be Reading Rainbow on PBS. It was at one of those parts where there was a book being read, with the camera looking at the pages... you know. A person was reading it, and I quote: "...I know that I deserve to die..." Note the word 'die', and that Reading Rainbow is intended for younger audiences than Shaman King. Yet we end up with the auquard sounding (yet often hillarious) phrases used to side-step 'the d-word.' Oh, well...

I don't which amuses me more... The fact that 4Kids followed up Pokemon with more occult-based shows like YGO and Shaman King and that no complaints were made... Makes me wonder if they'll try for Devil Children next. (Yes, a real show)
And then there's my 9-year-old YGO-obsessed cousin. For Christmas last year, he got a duel disc and an issue of Shonen Jump. So over breakfast, he's reading the One Piece bit where Zoro is fighting Mihawk. I'm reading the movie section of USA Today. So his mom looks over my shoulder and notices a story about "Meet the Fockers" and acts all shocked that someone named a movie that. Meanwhile her son's reading about a swordsman bleeding to death.

I also noticed today on Arthur that they said the word 'die.' If it's good enough for PBS, why can't they use it on Fox? Yay! You use the name Zoro!!! Um, sorry all I really have to contribute are these things, and that I'm modifying so late after the fact, and that this is a rather old topic, but they use the word 'die' in the Pokemon Advanced Challenge themesong: "Yeah this dream'll last forever/ this dream will never DIE" Maybe it's like they said in the eppi. 55 thread, inanimate objects like computers, or things like dreams, apparently can die without raising the 4KIDS editing alarm...?

#3 Yes, Chocolove is a mega obvious black stereotypical character... both in personality and in physical features (he's a Sambo... go to en.wikipedia.org if you're not sure). As a matter of fact, when I first saw him on the Internet (looking up Shaman King characters), I threw a hissy fit, then I called my friend who also threw a hissy fit and told her brother who was a little more sane and didn't make as much of a fuss.
I'm surprised no parents screamed and cried about that! One thing they definately should have been crying about are 4Kids dubs like One Piece's poison suction cups. Why? Because the stupidity in the dubs causes brain cells to die at an uncontrollable rate.

There's a reason Mr. Popo, Jinx and Chocolove never hit US toy shelves.
Out of curiosity, are Chocolove and the Patch the only Americans on SK? I find it very interesting how ethnicity and nationality play out in manga and anime.

Both Rebseb and Seyrarm are American, I believe (manga only). At least, they lived there at one point, if it wasn't their original nationality.

Parents can be idiots. I found the Faust episodes to be a little disturbing (at least in the original) and I hate Manta so that is really saying something. Now, why didn't THAT make it into headlines and controversy? I mean, the Pokemon thing is rediculous! Well, I also know why SK isn't getting much contruversy (or general attention... ) is because it wasn't marketed very well. They didn't load a lot (or any, I think) comersials. Heh, I can picture a commercail right now: These two kids are in a cheaply made graveyard kid1: Boy, it sure is spooky in here. Kid2: ...... Huh? OH! OH! Uhhh... Kid 2 reads script Kid2: Yeah Kid1: Hey, look I think I see a grost.. I mean ghost! this guy covered in flour gets lowered down on ropes Kid2:........ Kid2 reads script Kid2: AHHHH Ghost: relax, I'm good Kid1: SHAMAN KING RULES! really cheesy announcer: SO WATCH SHAMAN KING! AND BUY THE ACTION FIGURES! Kid1: can I go home now? I got a wife to go to at home Kid2: Yeah, and I need to piss... ...... Yeah, I have an evil mind
